With my wedding coming up, I was killing time on the local forum during my lunch break. My buddy Daryl Chavez had forwarded me a hot thread. 【The premium hookup I've been sleeping with for three years is getting hitched. Wonder if we'll still be able to go wild after this.】 The original poster had dumped a pile of chat logs that made your face burn, plus a few photos with the face cropped out but everything else on display. In the shots, a deep valley of cleavage and pale, glistening skin flickered in and out of view. She was an absolute knockout. The comment section had blown up. "Damn, that body, a fully ripe peach!" "OP, book a hotel the night before your wedding and give her one hell of a send-off!" "Trust me, put her in white stockings with the wedding dress. Absolutely electric!" That afternoon, my fiancée Bianca sent me a text. She asked me to swing by after work and bring home the altered wedding dress, said she wanted to wear it out and show the bridesmaids. I agreed without a second thought. After work I carried the heavy dress home and pushed open the door. I'd barely changed out of my shoes when I spotted a local delivery package on the floor, still unopened. Curious, I slit the packaging open on impulse. My head went blank in an instant. Inside was a brand-new pair of white stockings. …… I stared at the strappy white stockings in the box, and my heart went cold. Bianca never wore anything like this. But here it was, sitting in my home. My head was full of the filth from that forum thread. "White stockings with the wedding dress, absolutely electric!" I didn't want to connect that shameless bombshell on the forum with my gentle, dutiful fiancée. But how could there be a coincidence this perfect? Just then, I heard a key turn in the security door. Bianca walked in with groceries she'd just bought. "Honey, what are you doing standing there in the doorway?" "Nothing, just thinking about something at work." I tossed off the lie and pretended everything was fine, getting her slippers out for her. "Oh, and I brought the dress home." Bianca slipped into her slippers and turned to smile at me. "Honey, you worked all day and still went to pick up my dress. You must be exhausted." "I'll cook tonight and make you something good!" She kissed me, then carried the groceries into the kitchen, and soon I heard the sound of chopping. My nerves were on edge. Was I really just being paranoid? I leaned against the shoe cabinet, listening to the noise from the kitchen, and the stone in my chest eased down a little. At dinner, I put a piece of pork rib on Bianca's plate. "By the way, there was a local delivery for you at the door today. I opened it." "Why were there stockings inside? I've never seen you wear anything like that." I brought it up like it was nothing, but I kept my eyes on her. I didn't want to miss a single flicker on her face. Bianca paused mid-bite, then smiled with an easy, untroubled look. "Oh, that. That's from my cousin Vivien Finch." "She just got herself a boyfriend, and apparently he insists she wear weird stuff like that." She set down her chopsticks and wiped her mouth with a napkin. "She said she was scared it'd get delivered to her place and her parents would see, so she asked me to take it for her." Bianca shook her head as she spoke, a note of distaste in her voice. "Young people these days really let loose." "Honey, don't you go picking up bad habits, hmm~" Her eyes were playful and guileless. Just like that, my heart settled back into place. Right, Bianca barely even wore short skirts, she was extremely conservative. There was no way she'd be pulling some white-stockings-with-the-wedding-dress stunt. I cursed myself for letting one lousy thread turn me into a man sizing up his own wife with a dirty mind. After dinner, Bianca went to wash the dishes. I sat alone in the living room watching TV. As if something got into me, I opened that forum thread again. It had actually been updated. The OP had just posted something new. A few close-up shots of the hookup's feet. In the photos, the woman had a strikingly eye-catching silver snake-bone anklet around her ankle. I stared at the photos, going over them again and again. Every taut nerve finally let go. I let out a long breath and collapsed back onto the bed. Bianca basically never wore jewelry. She hated the way those things jingled and got in the way when she was busy. She rarely even wore the gold bracelet I'd given her. I let out a breath and tossed my phone aside.

2: 2 At ten that night, Bianca came out of the bathroom after her shower. She wore a modest set of silk pajamas, sitting on the edge of the bed, thumping her legs with her fists. "I've been so worn out lately. Work plus wedding planning, and today I ran to three hotels. My legs are killing me." She grumbled the complaint. Still guilty over the way I'd suspected her that afternoon for no reason, I hurried over to make it up to her. "Come here, come here. My hardworking wife. Let your husband rub them for you." I had her lie flat and worked my hands down from her shoulders, kneading. From her shoulders to her thighs, I did it thoroughly, missing nothing. Bianca narrowed her eyes in comfort, enjoying the service. I pushed the leg of her pajama pants up, wanting to massage her calves. The moment the fabric slid up. A silver snake-bone anklet sat there, plain as day, around her ankle! My mind went off like a thunderclap, and I froze on the spot. The style of that anklet, its shine, even the pattern etched into it. It was identical to the anklet in that close-up photo from the post! My hands started shaking without my control. The defenses I'd just rebuilt in my head collapsed in that instant. "What is this?!" I flung her leg aside and demanded it harshly. Bianca jumped at my sudden fury. She shot upright, staring at my bloodshot eyes, at a loss for what to do. "What is what? You scared me half to death." "Why are you blowing up like this? You scared me." I raised my voice, the rage flaring up again. "I'm asking you where that chain on your ankle came from!" Bianca sighed, exasperated. "It's that trending group-buy item everyone's been getting online lately!" "Almost every woman in my office has one. We ordered them together as a batch." Her tone was flat, without the slightest guilt. "I wasn't even going to buy one. They said mine was the last order they needed to get thirty percent off." "They also said I've got small feet and slim ankles, so it'd look great on me." "I figured, it's only a couple hundred bucks, and I didn't want to be the odd one out, so I bought it to wear for fun." "If you don't believe me, I'll pull up the purchase record." She reached for her phone, found the group-buy record, and handed it to me. True enough. A cheap couple-hundred-dollar trinket. With so many people wearing it, matching one was normal. I pushed the anger back down. "I don't like you wearing these flashy things. Don't wear it anymore." "Fine, fine, I won't. Your temper really is getting worse and worse." Bianca muttered it, got off the bed, and headed out. "I'm going to the bathroom." I retreated to the living room and sat on the couch, my back soaked in sweat. Ten minutes passed. Bianca still hadn't come out of the bathroom. I couldn't help pulling out my phone again and refreshing that trending local post. Just a minute earlier, the OP had posted a new reply. "So close. My guy just texted saying he forgot to take off the anklet and almost got caught by his wife." A chill shot straight up from the soles of my feet to the crown of my head. I softened my steps and walked, one at a time, to the bathroom door. Through the gap in the door, I saw what was happening inside. Bianca was standing at the sink. Her back was to the door, both hands flying across her phone screen. She was sending texts. Was she reporting that close call to the OP just now?! I kicked the bathroom door open. "Who are you messaging?!" I roared it. Bianca gave a full-body shudder of fright. She flipped the phone facedown on the sink. Her expression turned visibly flustered. "No... nothing. Just chatting with my cousin." She stammered. "Chatting with your cousin means you have to be this sneaky about it?" I reached for her phone. Bianca snatched it up first, fingers swiping fast. "It's really nothing. What does a grown man want with me and my cousin chatting!" The harder she covered, the deeper my despair sank. I stepped in and grabbed the phone, and found the chat still sitting open on the thread with her cousin. Except every message inside had been wiped clean. Catch a thief with the goods, catch cheaters in the act. The wedding date was almost here, and the relatives and friends had all been told. At this point, with no direct proof, it wasn't wise to turn on her. I ground my back teeth and forced down the feeling that wanted to erupt. "If you want to play on your phone, go do it outside. Clear out fast, I need the toilet, I can't hold it." Watching Bianca's back as she left, I thought to myself, let's see just how long you can keep up the act.

3: 3 A few days later, I was at the office when a text from Bianca came in. "Babe, tonight I'm meeting the bridesmaids to plan the wedding games. I won't be home for dinner." Staring at the words on the screen, I felt a wave of irritation. Did they really have to go out somewhere just to plan a few games? I wanted to press her on it, but I held it together and typed back a single "Okay." Right then, the local forum popped up a new-reply alert. I opened it fast. That original poster had put up another post. "Meeting her again tonight. This time I'm making her wear a yoga outfit." Attached was a photo taken from behind. The woman in it wore a limited-edition sculpting set that hugged every curve. The fabric was a loud, bright pink. That outfit set my rage on fire in an instant. It was a gift I'd bought for Bianca on a work trip out of town a while back, from some trending influencer boutique. She'd tried it on once, complained it was too tight and showed off too much, and refused to ever wear it outside. She'd said she'd only wear it at home, for me. After that, the outfit got shoved to the very bottom of the closet. My mind went blank. I grabbed a cab and rushed straight home. The second I was through the door, I bolted into the bedroom, threw open the closet, and tore through it. Nothing. The yoga outfit wasn't there. I searched the laundry hamper and the balcony too. Nothing anywhere. The fury burned right through what was left of my reason. I pulled out my phone and called Bianca again and again. "Sorry, the person you are calling is not available right now…" I called more than a dozen times, and every time all I got was that cold, mechanical woman's voice. It wasn't until nearly midnight that I heard the lock turn. I sat on the wrecked bed, my heart sunk to the bottom. It was midnight before the security door finally stirred. Bianca walked into the bedroom, exhaustion written all over her face. Seeing the clothes strewn across the bed, she froze for a second. "What are you looking for, tearing the whole place apart like this?" I choked down the urge to have it out with her and forced a smile. "Just an old jacket. Why are you back so late?" I stared into her eyes. Bianca's gaze darted away, and she bent down to change out of her shoes. "The bridesmaids are putting together a surprise. The discussion ran long." Lying. There was the faint scent of hotel body wash in her hair. She'd sprayed perfume to cover it, but I still caught it. To keep from tipping her off, I forced the anger back down. "Go shower. Let's turn in early tonight." I stood and walked toward the bed. I remembered something I'd seen on one of those short-video apps: once a woman cheats, she doesn't like her husband touching her anymore. The moment she came out of the shower, I stepped over and scooped her up. Then I dropped her onto the bed and leaned down over her. "Baby, tonight I want to…" On any other day, she'd have gone along with it. But tonight she thrashed hard and shoved me off with all her strength. "Stop it. I've been running around all day, I'm exhausted. Let's just sleep." She turned her back to me and pulled the covers up, wrapping herself in tight. I looked at her turned back, and the cold went straight through me. Just then the phone on the nightstand buzzed. It was a text from my good friend Daryl Chavez. "Hey man, I was over at the Ritz tonight meeting a client, and I think I saw Bianca outside the lobby doors." Daryl was my partner from the early days of the company, and my creditor too. Back when the company's cash flow dried up, he was the one who lent me five million to get us through. That text was the last straw that broke the camel's back. I didn't reply to Daryl. I was busy thinking how to get solid proof before the wedding. After turning it over for a moment, I opened the local forum and registered a blank burner account. I sent a direct message straight to that poster. "Hey OP, the girl in your post is gorgeous. Any chance I could get to know her?" "Good man, share the wealth!" He fired back a mocking little emoji fast. "Get lost. You think my woman is someone you get to daydream about?" I kept working him, soft and stubborn. "Come on, man, she's not your wife. I really do want to meet her." "We're both single old-timers at this. Don't you think this way's more fun?" "Let's just be friends. Who knows, maybe there'll be business we can do together down the line." "I've got gifts ready for you and the girl!" "Just ask her. Maybe she's up for it herself!" Then I pulled a photo of some muscular guy off the internet and sent it over. A few minutes later, the poster messaged back. "She said yes." "Day after tomorrow, evening. Room 1208 at the Ritz." "Door's unlocked. Just walk right in."

4: 4 Sure enough, first thing the next morning Bianca said she had to work overtime the next couple of days and would be home late. Looking at that face of hers, all I felt was disgust. Those two days of waiting were pure hell. Finally the appointed day came. I got to the Ritz half an hour early. The number on the door, 1208, was right in front of me. I clenched my fists, heart pounding like a drum. Lying inside was the woman I was about to marry. The woman I'd been with for three years, the one about to walk down the aisle with me. I took three deep breaths, gritted my teeth, and pushed open the door that had been left ajar. The room was dim. A sharp perfume hung in the air. A woman lay on the big bed. She wore a thin slip. A black blindfold covered most of her face. By the faint light, I recognized the shape of her. Just as hot as in the photos. Hearing the small sound at the door, the woman on the bed reacted at once. She rolled onto her side, propped up her head, and crooked a finger toward the door. And in the instant she lifted her leg, I saw the silver snake-bone anklet around her ankle! Exactly the same as the one on Bianca's ankle! The last shred of hope shattered completely. I wanted nothing more than to rush over and strangle this shameless woman right there. But what was left of my reason held me back. I had to get hard proof, leave her with nothing to say in front of every relative and friend! I forced myself to calm down, pulled out my phone, and started recording. Then I deliberately lowered my voice: "I'm here." Hearing the sound, the woman on the bed let out a coy laugh. "Baby, you finally came. I've been waiting so long I've practically wilted." Looking at that wanton pose, my stomach turned. "So desperate?" Choking back the urge to kill, I kept up the disguised voice and fished for more. "Sneaking out to a hotel behind your husband's back, aren't you scared he'll catch you?" The woman just curled her lip, not caring in the least. "Ugh, why bring up that loser and ruin the mood." Loser?! The veins on my forehead popped out. Out there working myself to death to support this family, and in her eyes I was nothing but a loser! She didn't notice anything off and kept whining sweetly. "All day long he only knows how to go to that dead-end job of his." "And at night he's as dull as a lump of wood." Gritting my teeth, I kept stoking the fire: "You've got some nerve. Getting married soon and still out here meeting other men." The woman shifted on the bed, lazily twirling a strand of her hair around her finger. "Baby, what, are you scared?" She bit her red lip. "I'm not scared at all." She pointed toward the bathroom. "Go take a shower first. Once you're done you'll relax, and I'll be right here waiting for you." I lost it completely. Like a maddened beast, I closed the distance to the bed in a few strides. "I'll kill you, you slut!" I grabbed a fistful of her hair and hauled most of her body off the bed. My other hand swung up high and came down hard, whistling through the air. "Ah! What are you doing!" The slap landed and tore the black lace blindfold off her face at the same time. My eyes went wide in disbelief. How could it be her?
