The Blind Billionaire's Fake Fiancée
Annie had been by Finn's side, taking care of him as a fake fiancée for her younger sister Sofia, in order to raise money for their mother's medical treatment. She didn't know when she had fallen in ...

"Slap!"
The slap landed on the porcelain-like face of the young girl, leaving a vivid red mark that gleamed in her eyes. The stinging sensation on her cheek left Annie momentarily stunned, her lips slowly oozing blood. She instinctively covered her face, unable to believe the disappointment in the eyes across from her.
"Don't look at me with those innocent eyes;it's disgusting.I've just asked you to help Sofia look after her blind fiancéfor a while, but you can't even do that. What a selfish girl."
After striking Annie,Calliope retrieved a handkerchief from her purse and delicately wiped her hand as if she had touched something filthy.
"That's right,my sister.Just a little favor,and you can't even graciously agree to help me."
Sofia, bored, inspected her freshly painted nails with indifference. She expressed her disdain while glancing in Annie's direction, and she couldn't stand the sight of this run-down house either. If it weren't for things to do,she would never willingly approach Annie or set foot inside this impoverished home.
"Furthermore,if you still want to play the noble one who doesn't want to get involved with me,that's fine;I won't force you.But I've heard that your weak mother needs a huge sum for her medical treatment, and with your impoverished appearance, can you even afford those medical bills?"
"Don't blame me for not warning you earlier. If you help me,I'm more than willing to give you a million dollars, and the medical expenses won't be an issue anymore. But if you remain clueless, helplessly watch your mother deteriorate and die soon."
Upon hearing this,Annie had fear and disappointment brimming in her wide eyes and couldn't help but exclaim,"Sofia, how can you say such heartless things? She's still your mother!"
Annie raised her voice as a reminder, but it was clear that Sofia paid no attention to this. She scoffed and looked disdainfully at Annie before intimately wrapping her arm around Calliope's and sweetly saying,"Mother? Is she worthy of being my mom?I only have one mother named Calliope, and that poor, ignorant woman is your mother alone,Annie."
Sofia retorted with a cold and cutting tone, and each word left Annie feeling increasingly crestfallen, her petite face turning pale.
"So,you can utter words as cruel as these?"
Isolde was the mother of Annie and Sofia,a destitute woman who worked as a nanny for the wealthy to make ends meet.Back then, she married her father,Galvin, while both of them were impoverished, and together, they raised Annie and Sofia. The four of them lived relatively harmoniously as a family.
However, later on,the daughter of Galvin's company's CEO,Calliope, falls head over heels in love with him and relentlessly urges Galvin to divorce Isolde to be with her.At that time,Galvin was drawn to power and wealth, directly divorcing Isolde and wanting to take Annie and Sofia to Calliope's mansion to enjoy a life of luxury.
Sofia, eager for wealth and happiness, agreed, severing her ties with Isolde to curry favor with her stepmother Calliope to become a noble heiress.Meanwhile,Annie steadfastly wanted to stay behind and care for Isolde, living with her in a small and humble house.A once-close family of four eventually fell apart, and since Galvin led Sofia away,Annie has never seen them again.
Today,Sofia, with an air of refinement, came to Annie's house along with Calliope, and to Annie's surprise, she made a direct proposal. She wanted Annie to look after her blind fiancéfor two years,in exchange for which she would pay Annie one million dollars.
Annie did not agree, and the situation escalated like this:
Upon hearing Annie's response,Sofia, with a triumphant expression, burst into laughter with an air of superiority. She tilted her chin towards Annie and smirked, handing Annie a business card.
"Fine,I'll give you three days to think it over.If you agree, give me a call."
With that,Annie haughtily raised her head and led Calliope away, not forgetting to mutter condescendingly before leaving.
"What a wretched place this is;I can't stand it.Mom,it's such a good thing that I followed Dad to live with you back in the day,or else I'd have to endure this decrepit and decrepit house.Just the thought of it is terrifying."
Terrifying?Annie couldn't help but burst into a bitter laugh. Her younger sister, who used to be the picture of beauty, had turned into this cruel and haughty demeanor after several years of not seeing each other, making her feel like a stranger.
The pain on her face didn't compare to the ache in her heart.Annie sighed deeply and took a deep breath to calm herself.Annie went to the kitchen, packed the food into a thermos, smoothly placed them in a white cloth bag,and carried them to the hospital to visit her mother.
Indeed, what Sofia said was true;their current situation was dire.Isolde had kidney problems, and every hospital visit incurred a substantial cost,a financial burden that weighed heavily on Annie. However, whenever she faced Isolde,Annie tried to appear normal and avoided mentioning her encounter with Sofia and Calliope that afternoon.
"Mom,I brought dinner for you.How are you feeling today?"
Isolde was staring out the window, and when she saw Annie approach, her face softened. She gently took Annie's hand and spoke softly.
"It's not a big deal for me,dear.I'm fine. You don't have to cook and bring food here.I can eat the hospital food just fine."
Annie didn't agree with that for a moment. She carefully took the steaming hot meal from the bag and placed it on the table, offering a spoon to Isolde.
"How can hospital food possibly provide the nutrition you need?I have the time to cook dinner for you,and your health is the most important thing."
Isolde sighed as she ate,her thoughts lingering in the quiet moments, her eyes downcast.

"The medical bills this time are quite high, aren't they,Annie? It's all because of my incompetence.I'm not only poor but also in poor health. It's hard on you,my child."
"Actually, you don't need to take care of me and bear this burden,Annie. You can leave me and go to your father's home. You'd have a better life without worrying about me.Please don't worry.I've grown accustomed to living with this illness."
Annie choked back her emotions, hastily taking hold of Isolde's hand and speaking soothingly.
"Mom,please don't say that.I've never regarded you as a burden. You have always been my source of motivation, and you're the most cherished person in my life."
"Don't worry about money,"Annie reassured, gently soothing Isolde's emotions to ensure she finished her dinner. She fabricated a story, explaining that she had recently secured a job at a renowned restaurant, earning a substantial income with generous tips from my customers.Afterward,Annie sat with Isolde for a while before preparing for her evening shift. Before leaving, she reminded Isolde not to dwell on things too much and to relax and unwind at the hospital.
"You're truly fortunate to have such a beautiful and well-behaved daughter.Every day,I see her coming to take care of you and bring you meals,"Joyce, the woman sharing the hospital room with Isolde, praised, her eyes filled with admiration.Isolde smiled warmly, her gentle demeanor radiating contentment.
"Yes,having her as my daughter is my greatest blessing."
As Annie left the hospital room, she crossed paths with the doctor primarily responsible for her mother's treatment.Annie engaged in a brief conversation, taking the opportunity to inquire about the status of the medical bills.
"Doctor, can I delay my mother's medical bill payment for a few more days?I really don't have enough money right now,"Annie said sadly. She had been working multiple jobs lately, but the enormous medical expenses remained a pressing issue. No matter how hard she saved,it never seemed to be enough. The doctor empathized with Annie's family's situation and shook his head helplessly.
"Unfortunately, that's not possible. What a pity,we can only proceed with treatment after receiving the payment."
"And your mother's condition is specific, requiring timely and regular treatment;otherwise,it could lead to health complications."
Annie looked down at the ground in despair, thanked the doctor, and promised to do her best to gather the money. She then left and headed to the bar where she had recently started working, thanks to a friend's referral.Despite the chaotic atmosphere and environment, the pay was substantial.Annie gritted her teeth and went to work on her first day, feeling exhausted but determined.
Annie wears a slightly short uniform dress, snug enough to reveal her long,porcelain-white legs. Her face was heavily adorned with makeup, exuding a captivating allure. As she moved through the bar, there was no shortage of men whistling and playfully teasing her.
Feeling uneasy,Annie discreetly adjusted her dress and carried a tray of drinks into the private room 103 of the bar, commencing her evening shift in a perpetual atmosphere.
About ten men were sitting inside the room, each dressed in upscale suits, emanating an air of affluence and sophistication.Beside each sat a beautiful young woman, serving them fruits from the table.Annie composedly placed the drinks on the table, intending to leave. However, her spine suddenly stiffened as she felt a man seated nearby reaching out to caress her back, smirking and teasing.
"Sweetie, you look this beautiful, and you're just here to serve drinks? How about sitting on my lap and having a drink with me?I'll pay you whatever you want;how does that sound?"
The man likely had consumed a considerable amount of alcohol, and his breath reeked of the strong liquor. His arm gradually moved down to her hip, making her tremble as she quickly brushed his hand away, her voice tinged with fear.
"Please,don't,don't do that.I'm a waitress,and I can't sit and drink with you.Please understand,"Annie implored.
Frustrated by Annie's rejection, the man angrily grabbed her hand and pulled her to sit beside him, drawing dangerously close. He held her chin to make her look directly into his eyes,a menacing grin spreading across his face.
"Don't act all innocent and pure.I know what kind of girls work here.Tonight,be a good girl, serve me some drinks, let me touch a bit,and I will buy you an expensive purse tomorrow, okay?"
Annie continued to evade his advances, attempting to stand up,but the man's grip on her arm remained tight, like a vise, preventing her from moving. The woman sitting next to the man now chuckled, offering a soft word of advice to Annie.
"Yes,that's right.Duane is a wealthy and generous billionaire. If you sit down and drink with him for one evening,he won't let you leave empty-handed."
"Last time,I sat with him for one night, and he immediately bought me three designer handbags."
Annie bit her lip once more, stood up,and made a determined effort to escape from Duane's embrace again, stammering as she spoke.
"I'm sorry;I already said I'm not."
Perhaps Annie's repeated rejections had genuinely infuriated Duane. He slammed the wine bottle she had just brought onto the ground, creating a loud noise that startled everyone in the room.Duane's face darkened, and his forehead veins bulged as he yelled at the woman beside him.
"Quickly, call the manager over here.I'm losing my temper.Suddenly hiring such a foolish employee, who dares to act so high and mighty even when favored by me,disgusts me."
The woman was genuinely frightened and hurriedly went to find the manager. When the manager arrived,Duane raised his voice, recounting the incident from earlier and pointedly declaring it was Annie's fault.
"Today,I have to resolve this peacefully.I'm a regular customer at this bar,and she doesn't respect me,acting all high and mighty, which has killed my interest in drinking."

"Now,there are three options. One is fire Annie, two is let her spend the night with me,and another is all of you can forget about doing business in this city."
Duane,a wealthy and powerful billionaire, could shut down this bar within half a day.The manager didn't dare delay and quickly complied.Duane wanted to persuade Annie to reconsider and accompany him to a hotel tonight, but Annie was resolute. She had come here to work seriously and earn clean money, not to sell herself or sleep with playboy billionaires.
So,Annie was directly fired and didn't receive any payment. Before leaving, the manager couldn't help but offer some advice.
"You may appear beautiful, but don't be so stubborn.Sometimes,a little compromise can make life easier. He just made a pass;you wouldn't have lost anything.Sometimes, you have to be more flexible."
"For instance,if you had obediently followed Duane's orders tonight,he would have generously given you a significant tip.You wouldn't have been fired, and if luck favored you, your life might have taken a different path."
Annie left, returning to her empty home. She was alone inside, not turning on the lights, sitting quietly on the bed, tears falling silently. The lingering feeling of disgust on her back continued to haunt Annie, making her loathe herself even more. Her cheap pride had made everything worse, and now,the medical bills remained unpaid, her mother's condition deteriorated, and even her sole family member couldn't receive proper care. The sense of helplessness overwhelmed Annie, causing her tears to fall on her pale face, wetting her collar.
What was the value of her pride now that Annie had fundamentally succumbed to life's hardships? She sobbed for a while until her tears seemed to dry up.Annie turned around slowly, got up,and went to the bathroom to clean herself thoroughly. She scrubbed her back so hard that it felt like she was peeling off a layer of skin, trying to rid herself of the feeling of disgust. Then she retrieved Sofia's business card, which she had neatly stored in a drawer.
Annie stared at the phone for a while, finally making up her mind. She picked up her phone and called Sofia.Sofia picked up quickly, and in the stillness of the night, her cheerful laughter was crystal clear in Annie's ears.
"Well,my dear sister, isn't this a surprise? The girl with so much pride and purity is calling?"Sofia teased, not waiting for Annie to speak.
Without waiting for Annie to respond,Sofia already knew what she wanted to say and chuckled teasingly. She pursed her lips, her eyes gleaming with satisfaction, and after a few seconds, she continued,"I'll ask again:are you willing to help me take care of my crippled and foolish fiancé,Finn?"
Annie clenched her lips, reluctantly accepting even though her heart was unwilling.
"I agree."
Sofia scoffed, her arrogant and cold attitude unchanged."Agreeing sooner would have been better,my dear sister.Showing hesitation and reluctance is quite repulsive."
Sofia then briefly recounted her situation and that of her current blind fiancé,Finn,to Annie. The engagement between Finn and Sofia had been arranged when both families were wealthy and prosperous. At that time,Finn was the only son in his family, handsome, talented, and possessed strong business acumen, making him a dream marriage prospect for many young women.Given the affluent circumstances of Sofia's family, they were considered a suitable match.
However, recently, after Finn's mother passed away, his father hastily remarried a younger, beautiful stepmother, who had a son from a previous marriage, older than Finn by two years.Finn's father appeared to favor this stepson,Hubert and even had plans to groom him as the future heir to the family business.Consequently,Finn went from being the esteemed heir to an outcast in his family.
Subsequently,a series of events led to Finn's temporary blindness, and whether or not he would regain his sight depended on luck and fate.In such circumstances,as Finn's fiancée,Sofia naturally had the responsibility to take care of him,be by his side, and encourage him to overcome this predicament.
However,Sofia, now living a lavish and privileged life as an aristocratic young lady, despised Finn's blindness and his abandonment by his father. She had no intention of caring for Finn.
"Why should I endure this hardship when he's blinded and disowned by his father?"Sofia remarked."If it weren't for fear of public opinion and the disdain for greed and poverty,I would have abandoned my fiancé's status long ago."
"Furthermore, while Finn may no longer be the heir to the family fortune,he still holds shares in the company and has his own successful business.Who knows, circumstances might change, and Finn could become even more successful and wealthy than he is now. Then I could enjoy wealth and bask in the praise of others as a virtuous fiancée."
"So,your current task is to take good care of Finn for me;as I promised,I will pay you one million dollars. If you perform well, there may even be additional rewards."
Sofia had no concerns about Annie potentially replacing her as Finn's fiancée,as the two were identical twins, and their striking resemblance often led people to mistake them for one another.Even their parents had occasionally mistaken them for each other when they were young.Besides,Finn had only met Sofia a few times before,so Sofia was confident that this switch would go unnoticed.
"Do you understand?"Sofia concluded, condescendingly asking if Annie comprehended.Annie obediently responded that she understood and would do her best.Satisfied,Sofia provided Finn's address to Annie, reminded her of a few crucial points, and then hung up.
Finally, the space returned to silence.Annie sat in her empty house, feeling suffocated to the point where she couldn't breathe properly.Once again, she found herself doing something she hated, using deception to gain money.Annie sat motionless on her bed in the midst of the pitch-black night, feeling like her life had become just as blurry and uncertain as that of a blind person.

Like Finn,Annie's future looked bleak with no silver lining, and everything appeared dark and dismal. However,Finn was certainly much luckier than Annie because he was still a wealthy billionaire with considerable assets in the country, with a vast fortune he had amassed when managing his father's company and his own business. In contrast,Annie had nothing.
When Annie was in pain and desperate, she couldn't help but look around, feeling lost and sighing deeply.Despite her unwillingness, life had to go on.
Annie woke up without time for breakfast the next day, hastily got dressed, and hurried to work. Her words to her mother weren't entirely false.Currently, she works as a server at a well-known five-star restaurant in the city, earning a stable income.
Upon arrival, other staff members were also changing into their uniforms to prepare for the morning shift.Manager Denis greeted Annie with a gentle smile."Good morning,Annie."
Annie tried to appear cheerful and returned the greeting. She chatted briefly with Denis and then changed into her work attire. They were always on high alert near the start of their shift to welcome customers.
Annie had a busy morning, and it wasn't until a few hours into her shift that she had time to stand next to Denis and chat. The two of them stood in a corner of the restaurant, already changed into comfortable clothes.Denis began speaking slowly.
"Annie,I proposed your salary advance to the higher-ups,but they didn't approve it.I'm sorry I couldn't help you."
Previously, when Isolde had to go to the hospital,Annie had been in a rush and had asked Denis to help her get an advance on her salary for this month and the next to cover some of the medical expenses.Denis had been more than willing to assist. However, this required approval from higher management, and Denis was worried about Annie when the outcome didn't meet their expectations.
Seeing Denis's concerned expression,Annie reassured him with a soft and soothing voice.
"It's okay.Regardless,I appreciate you. Before this, you also lent me a large sum of money, and you even helped me propose to get an advance on my salary.I'll pay you back soon."
Denis was a kind and compassionate man. When Annie was struggling and desperate to cover the medical expenses for her mother,he loaned her money and assisted her in requesting an advance on her salary.Annie was so grateful for his help.
"So,how is your mother's medical bill?I have some well-off friends, and I can ask them to lend you money,"Denis offered, showing deep concern for Annie's situation.
Annie shook her head, indicating that she would handle it herself, and assured Denis that she had a wealthy friend who had lent her substantial money. She didn't want to bring up the complex relationship between her and Sofia,so she chose to tell a white lie and nodded to reassure Denis that everything was fine.Denis briefly felt reassured and didn't press further, changing the subject.
"Alright, that's good to hear.Have you been able to visit your mother at the hospital?I also want to visit her. After all,we're colleagues, and it's something we should do."
"Moreover,my mom is also in the same hospital, and it seems like she's in the same ward as your mother.I also plan to visit her this afternoon."
Denis was Annie's closest colleague at the restaurant,so she couldn't refuse his genuine offer. On their way to the hospital,Denis wanted to buy many things to bring as gifts, but Annie had to intervene several times to stop him.Eventually,Denis arrived at the hospital to visit her mother with a bouquet of fresh flowers and a carefully packaged bag of fruit.
"In fact, you didn't need to buy so much;just coming with me to visit my mom is enough,"Annie couldn't help but say quietly on the way back, feeling somewhat uneasy that Denis had to spend so much money. However,Denis shook his head and said it was alright;they didn't need to be so distant.
On their way back, they stopped by the roadside and bought four more lunchboxes before heading to the hospital.Annie feels guilty about Denis spending a lot and whispers to Denis that they didn't need to go to such lengths. But Denis shook his head, assuring her that it was not necessary.
They arrived at the hospital and bought some additional food before entering. When Annie mentioned the room number where her mother was staying,Denis appeared surprisingly surprised.
"What a coincidence! My mother is also in that room too."
It was a relatively small hospital in the city,so patients were often placed in shared rooms, even if their medical conditions were unrelated.Denis's mother had slipped down the stairs a week ago due to a careless accident, resulting in minor injuries and fractured bones, requiring her to stay in the hospital for observation.
It was unexpected that they would end up in the same hospital room with Annie's mother.
When they entered the room,Joyce and Isolde were engaged in a cheerful conversation. They turned to look as they heard footsteps.
"Mom,I brought lunch for you,"Annie said with a charming smile, placing the lunchbox on the small table beside the hospital bed.Denis,by her side, also spoke up.
"Hello,ma'am.I'm Annie's colleague.Today,I brought a little gift for you. It's quite a coincidence;I didn't expect you to share the hospital room with Annie's mom."
Isolde was a gentle and kind-hearted woman. She politely thanked Denis and invited him to sit down.Joyce,on the other hand, seemed pleased and somewhat amused.
After the initial greetings, the four people gathered around the small table for lunch, and the atmosphere was relatively warm.
Joyce seemed to have a fondness for Annie, constantly asking about her job and her relationship status. She even inquired about Annie's feelings toward Denis. In the face of such enthusiastic curiosity,Annie responded somewhat hesitantly, and Denis, noticing something unusual, also asked uncertainly.
第5章
"Mom,have you heard Annie mention someone recently?"
Annie and Isolde exchanged dreamy and unclear glances, and Denis hesitated while trying to explain.Lately, whenever he visited his mother and took walks with Annie, she frequently mentioned the patient's son,who shared the room with her mother.
Joyce seemed so pleased and fond of this girl, constantly praising her for being obedient, adorable, and well-behaved.Denis had heard so much about her that he became curious about this girl, not knowing that it was Annie all along.
Joyce nodded happily, openly admitting to it.She smiled at Annie, sitting beside her,her eyes filled with affection.
"Annie,do you have a boyfriend?Denis is single,and if you're available,you should consider him."
Joyce's overly explicit words left Annie blushing, and she was about to open her mouth to explain, thinking of the deal she had with Sofia earlier. However, before Annie could say anything further,Isolde quickly responded.
"Not yet.Annie is a hardworking and compassionate young girl. She has to work tirelessly to earn a living because of my illness.Until now,she hasn't had a boyfriend."
Annie looked at her mother with a sense of despair, silently imploring her to stop, but the story continued to unfold, slipping out of her control.Joyce and Isolde continued to chat enthusiastically, introducing their children as if Annie and Denis were genuinely about to fall in love.
Denis, equally stunned as Annie, glanced at her with a mix of helplessness and confusion.Annie forced a faint smile and obediently ate her meal, pretending to be oblivious.
Joyce and Isolde talked fervently, and in no time, they discussed the possibility of Annie and Denis dating, expressing their wholehearted support and delight. In the end,Annie and Denis had to make excuses to leave the conversation, which had taken an odd turn. Both walked away with forced smiles and awkwardness.
"Please don't take what my mom said too seriously;she was just teasing,"Annie assured Denis, avoiding eye contact.
Noticing Annie's discomfort,Denis refrained from pressing further and remained silent as he dropped her off at home.
As they bid each other farewell, they could see the awkwardness in each other's eyes, which was far from the comfort they had initially shared.Annie gave Denis an awkward farewell and hurried inside her home. She believed that the fewer people who knew about her deal with Sofia, the better. Therefore, she dared not get too close or distant from Denis to avoid hurting and disappointing him afterward.
With these thoughts in mind,Annie lightly patted her cheek to quickly forget the recent incident, refocusing her mind to prepare for what lay ahead.
…
The following morning,as per the agreement with Sofia,Annie was to move her belongings to Finn's house to make it more convenient to care for him at all times.Sofia drove to pick up Annie, providing continuous instructions during the ride.
"While Finn is blind, there are many people to help him at his home,so don't reveal any weaknesses that might affect my image."
"Also, you should reduce your part-time jobs and focus on looking after Finn to make people praise me for being responsible and kind.I will pay you extra money so you won't lose out."
"Later,I'll also buy you some expensive clothes and jewelry to wear when guests visit Finn or when you go out with him.Remember, when you are at home, you can wear your shabby clothes, but when you meet anyone other than Finn, you must dress elegantly like a noble lady to match me."
Annie silently noted all of Sofia's instructions without any complaints. After all,the amount of money Sofia had provided was substantial,so all her demands seemed reasonable.
When Annie arrived at Finn's doorstep,Sofia handed her a new phone and helped her call the maid to come and assist.Sofia then arrogantly drove away.Fortunately, the maid,Keelin, was a gentle and helpful woman. She enthusiastically helped Annie move her belongings inside.
As Annie stepped into the clean house wearing her fluffy slippers, she heard a deep male voice.
"You must be Sofia, right?Go back;I don't need your pity."
"You've also noticed that I'm just a blind man.I'm no longer the heir to power,so you can seduce Hubert instead of trying to win me over."
"I'm more than willing to help you announce the damn cancellation of this wretched engagement."
Listening to the cold and disdainful tone,Annie tilted her head to look at the man leaning against the sofa.He wore a simple hoodie and long pants. His face was handsome as sculpted with striking features:a high, straight nose, thin lips, and fair, captivating skin. However, his deep, unseeing eyes were intense.Based on Annie's deduction, this man was Finn, her younger sister's fiancé.
At this moment, seeing that Annie hadn't responded,Finn furrowed his brow, his hand on the sofa tightening as he spoke again.
"Don't you understand?I said,Go away;I don't need care,and I despise you."
Finn had met Sofia a few times in real life and had a sense of her personality:arrogant,money-hungry,and craving attention. She was definitely not the kind of person who would willingly help when he was blind.
The reason for her appearance was that if she abandoned him now,it would be bad for her reputation.Finn didn't need this pretense.Besides,he didn't like having strangers in his house.
"I won't go anywhere.I am your fiancée,so I should stay with you during this hard time.If you don't want to be bothered,I will always keep quiet and won't approach you."
Annie replied gently, trying to soothe Finn's irritability. In that situation,Finn could become sensitive and irritable, and Annie didn't want to provoke him into an argument. So she softly asked Keelin to help her carry her suitcase to the room opposite Finn's.
"Huh,pretending, huh? If you want to stay, stay. And if you can't,then leave.I won't hold you back."
Finn didn't bother saying more;he got up from the sofa and slowly went upstairs.Seeing Finn's slow and difficult steps,Annie gently sighed. It seemed that her life from now on wouldn't be easy.Finn's clear thoughts about disdain and resentment toward Sofia were evident, and Annie couldn't ignore them.
第6章
After Finn had gone upstairs in a cold manner,Annie had no choice but to follow him, keeping a safe distance to avoid making him feel uncomfortable.Back in her room,Annie slowly began to tidy up her belongings, neatly stowing them away in the drawers.Since she had brought very few possessions,Annie quickly completed the task.
Annie wasn't accustomed to idleness,so after sitting around for a while, she decided to go downstairs to find Keelin, who was busy in the kitchen.
"Hi,can I help you with anything?"
Annie asked with a hint of boredom in her voice.Keelin had heard of Sofia's reputation as a haughty and disdainful fiancée,even going so far as to pour wine over the head of the maid in her home just because the food wasn't to her liking. Therefore,Keelin was initially wary when Annie approached. However,Annie's demeanor and warm smile quickly dispelled any reservations.
"Don't worry;I just want to help you prepare dinner.May I join in?"Annie spoke sincerely, her face radiating purity and sincerity.Keelin, impressed by Annie's willingness, nodded in agreement. She gently asked Annie to prepare a truffle mushroom dish for dinner, and Annie eagerly got to work, surprising Keelin with her efficiency.
The initial impression of a snobbish heiress quickly dissolved, and in no time,Keelin found the rumors about Sofia were unwarranted. The atmosphere soon became harmonious,as Annie's previous experience working as a sous chef at a Michelin-starred restaurant allowed her to prepare even the most luxurious dishes in an easy way.Keelin couldn't help but praise the exquisite meals Annie was preparing.
"Is this dinner for Finn?Let me take it upstairs for you."
Understanding Keelin's intent,Annie took the initiative to bring the meal to Finn. She believed that approaching Finn slowly and cautiously could reduce his aversion to her,so she eagerly seized every opportunity to get closer to him.
"Sure,thank you,"Keelin replied.
Annie carefully carried the tray of exquisite dishes upstairs and politely knocked on Finn's door.
"Finn, may I come in?I've brought dinner for you."
Finn, who had been sitting by the window, lost in thought, heard Annie's voice. His expression revealed his impatience, but he responded with a chilly"If you have no objections, then come in."
Annie gently pushed the door open and entered.Finn's room was minimalist, predominantly black and white, with everything neatly organized.Finn was sitting at a small table near the window, his face slightly downturned, making it hard for Annie to read his emotions.
She placed the tray on the small table, her voice soft as she explained.
"I've placed the food in front of you,and you can reach out to get it.If you don't mind,I can even lend you a hand to locate the position of the food,"Annie said.
The more Finn listened, the more he felt that Annie was hypocritical, harboring a deep disdain for a blind person like him.But he had to maintain an appearance of gentleness. In just a few encounters,Finn realizes that his fiancée wasn't the type of person Annie pretended to be,and what he despises the most is the deception.
"Step aside. From now on,you won't have to bring food here;Keelin will handle that."
Since unintentionally losing his sight,Finn has become incredibly sensitive to how people treat him.Previously, there were many maids and even a personal butler in his apartment, but he had let them all go and retained Keelin, who had been helping with household chores and cooking for Finn since his birth.
Finn didn't want anyone else coming to live here, disrupting his life,or witnessing his struggles, leading to feelings of pity or disgust. So,Annie's presence in the house left him really dissatisfied.
Furthermore, what Annie is doing seems like she is pitying Finn's situation, and he detests people who pitied him at this point in his life.
Not discouraged by the rejection,Annie spoke softly,"It's okay.I have some free time,so I'm helping Keelin a bit.Why don't you try the food to see if it suits your taste?Today,I've prepared some nutritious dishes for your health."
Annie's gentle and unaffected manner was unfazed by Finn's coldness, which made him feel like he was punching a cushion. He gritted his teeth and continued speaking.
"I've already said it;there's no need to pity me.Don't pretend to be kind in front of me;this makes me nauseating."
Annie acted as if she hadn't heard, continuing to advise.
"Alright,go ahead and eat to keep it warm.In a little while, the food will no longer be as delicious when it's cold."
Annie's stubbornness succeeded in infuriating Finn.He furrowed his brow and angrily knocked the food off the table, creating a jarring and headache-inducing sound.
"Are you deaf,or do you not understand human language?I already said,Stay away from me.I don't need your care or cooking;it's unnecessary."
Finn's actions also frightened Annie, and her gaze became concerned.Annie tried to remain calm, silently cleaning up the mess on the floor, not saying anything further.
Though Finn couldn't see,he heard the sound of porcelain clinking as Annie bent down to clean up,and he coldly added,"You don't need to pretend to be diligent here;just let Keelin handle everything. You can leave now."
Annie bit her lip, quickly cleared away the broken pieces into a tray, and then left Finn's room.In front of Keelin, who was waiting outside with a surprised expression, she shook her head slightly to signal that everything was fine and asked Keelin to prepare a fresh meal for Finn and bring it in.
"Also, bring in a tube of burn cream. When I knocked over the soup bowl,Finn got a slight burn on his hand."
Annie's voice remained soothing and pleasant,as she had long grown accustomed to incidents like this. When working as a restaurant server, she had been splashed with hot liquid and even slapped in the face by customers when they were dissatisfied with her attitude.
Keelin sighed, patted Annie's shoulder in consolation, and then carried another lunch tray upstairs. When Keelin knocked on Finn's door and was allowed to enter, she heard Finn's low, impatient voice.

"In the future, don't let Annie into my room.I don't like it."
Keelin acknowledged it quietly and placed the meal in front of Finn, guiding him to the location of the food.Afterward, she didn't rush to leave but handed Finn a small tube of burn cream, her elderly voice gently rising.
"This is the burn cream Sofia asked me to bring for you.She said,Your hand got burned."
With that,Keelin left the room, leaving Finn sitting in silence. He held the tube of cream in his hand, and his brow furrowed in deep contemplation, his thoughts a mystery.
Finn had been furious in the evening,so naturally,Annie didn't dare to approach him anymore.Annie lived as if she were invisible, having dinner with Keelin and then returning to her room. She didn't even dare to look straight ahead when passing by Finn's room.
Annie woke up early the next day, perhaps due to her habit of being busy in the past,so she wasn't used to idleness.Excessive free time made her feel somewhat out of place,so she stood up and went downstairs.
"Keelin,good morning."
Annie yawned as she greeted Keelin, who was busy making sandwiches, filling the air with a delightful aroma.Keelin noticed Annie coming downstairs, raised her head, and smiled, her gaze softening.
"Good morning,Sofia.Did you sleep well last night?"
Annie had already grown accustomed to being called Sofia,so she didn't react anymore.Annie casually stretched and sat down at the small table by the kitchen.
"I slept very well. The room had scented candles,so it smelled wonderful."
Keelin had been considerate, fearing that Annie might have trouble sleeping in an unfamiliar place. She had placed a jar of gently scented lavender candles in Annie's room, making it easier for her to fall asleep.
"That's good to hear. Here is your breakfast.Right now,I need to buy some ingredients for lunch. If Finn wakes up,could you please help me serve breakfast to him?"
Keelin pointed out the location of the chicken soup and the delicious-looking sandwiches in the oven.Annie nodded in agreement. After Keelin left, she happily dug into her breakfast.
Suddenly,Annie deeply understood Sofia's feelings in the past when she left with her father for her wealthy stepmother's home.Life with her mother had been difficult and impoverished, and her parents had agreed to take one child each after their divorce.
Sofia had always been pampered by Annie and her mother since childhood,so her decision to go with her father had been quite normal.Besides, the leisurely and comfortable life of an heiress, where she didn't have to worry about money, was a dream come true.
While Annie was lost in thought,Finn had also woken up and leaned against the staircase to descend. He slowly entered the kitchen, his voice slightly hoarse.
"Keelin, what do we have for breakfast this morning?"
Keelin had been a long-time maid in the household, and her exemplary behavior had earned her Finn's gracious demeanor.Annie, hearing Finn's voice, immediately rose to fetch him a portion of breakfast set on the table, then softly responded,
"This morning,we have sandwiches and chicken soup.Keelin went grocery shopping,so I've taken the liberty of fetching them for you. They're on the table, and if you don't mind,I can assist you in sitting down."Annie added the last part cautiously and quietly, observing Finn's expression closely, fearing he might erupt in anger. However,to her surprise,Finn displayed no such attitude. He responded with a gentle tone, asking Annie to guide him to a chair.
"The soup is still quite hot,so take it slow.Perhaps you should start with the sandwich."
Annie handed the sandwich to Finn and spoke in a soothing tone,as gentle as a soft breeze, pleasantly surprising Finn.He graciously thanked her and sat down to have breakfast, every movement deliberate and refined.
Annie watched Finn eat,her voice tinged with a hint of wanting to engage in conversation.
"In reality,I came here not to ridicule or pity your circumstances.I just believe that,in name,I am your fiancée,and thus,I should be here for you in times like these.I believe you need someone by your side,a companion."
"I moved into your house because I felt responsible to stay with you and look after you during this time."
"If you feel bothered,I apologize. But you don't need to worry;once your eyes can see as before,I will leave and won't make you uncomfortable anymore."
Finn's motion of drinking water slightly paused, and his face showed unusual emotions. However, before Annie could fully grasp the peculiarity in Finn's attitude,he responded with a simple,"Oh."
It seemed like a compromise, and it made Annie breathe a sigh of relief involuntarily. At least the days ahead would be easier, without the fear of Finn losing his temper and kicking her out.
After finishing his meal,Finn clumsily reached for the table and stood up,turning to leave.Annie hurriedly stood up as well, helping him clear the breakfast dishes.
"Thank you."
Annie wasn't sure if Finn was thanking her for helping him with breakfast and clearing the dishes or for being there with him now,but she was pleased either way.Initially, she thought everything might be difficult, but maybe things were gradually becoming more favorable.
A while later,Keelin returned, and the two prepared lunch together and had their meal.Annie still felt hesitant due to Finn's anger from the previous day,so she let Keelin bring the food to him as usual while she obediently sat and ate in the kitchen.
After finishing the meal,Annie cleared the table and had to go upstairs to change clothes to prepare for her afternoon shift at the restaurant.Even though Sofia had given her quite a bit of money to take a break from all the extra jobs,Annie regretted missing out on the quarterly and year-end bonuses,so she continued working and couldn't bring herself to quit.

As Annie reached the door, she coincidentally ran into Denis. They nodded at each other in greeting and walked inside together.Denis casually spoke first.
"Annie, you've been quite busy lately, haven't you?I heard from your mom that you're working a lot and don't have time to bring lunch to her every day like before."
In the past,Annie used to cook or buy meals for Isolde for every meal. However, these past few days, due to moving to Finn's house,Sofia also requested that Annie spend more time with him,so she had to lie to Isolde, telling her that she had a busy job and had become a maid for a wealthy family, which required her to move in with them.
Isolde's hospital bills were substantial every time,so Annie didn't inquire much about Annie's situation. She only reminded Annie to take care of herself and not to overwork.
"Yeah,I've been taking on more jobs lately to cover my mom's medical bills.Even though I could borrow from my friends, you know how it is,I still have to pay them back somehow."
Denis nodded in understanding and didn't press for more details.Annie focused entirely on her work at the restaurant, and after her shift, she straightened up with a sigh.
"Let me give you a ride home,"Denis offered.
Denis had an old car he had bought from a friend a few years ago and occasionally used it for work.Annie was worried about revealing that she was living at Finn's house,so she quickly declined, fibbing that she had to go to another job nearby.
Denis didn't insist and left somewhat regretfully. When Annie returned home,it was nearly dark. She helped Keelin prepare dinner and asked about Finn.
"Did Finn have any special interests in the past?"
Keelin stirred the seaweed soup on the stove and replied,"Yes,he loved playing the guitar. When he was young,he even wanted to become a guitar artist. His mother supported him in pursuing his passion back then, but his father insisted that he manage the family company and become a successful CEO."
"So,in the end,Finn couldn't pursue his dream,"Annie remarked.
Keelin sighed while Annie remained silent, lost in her thoughts and memories. She suddenly recalled the dusty guitar in the corner of Finn's room from last night, realizing it must have had quite a unique story.
In the evening, the three of them sat down to dinner, not uttering a word to each other.Finn's natural inclination for silence felt normal, and Keelin had long grown accustomed to the quiet.Annie, however, was slightly uneasy but tried to appear composed.
After they finished eating,Finn coldly retreated to his room, closing the door behind him.Annie, too, quietly headed to her room.Just as she had finished her shower, her new phone,a gift from Sofia, rang melodiously.
Annie swiftly answered, and a gentle voice came through the phone.
"My dear sister, how are things?Finn didn't kick you out of the house, did he?"
Annie shook her head, then remembered Sofia couldn't see her right now.She spoke softly with her voice lower and began updating Sofia on recent events.
"Such a stupid girl. How long have you been there? You still can't get close to Finn?I gave you money to provoke Finn and get yourself kicked out of the room, right?"
Annie pursed her lips, promising to make more effort to keep Finn from growing even more annoyed.Sofia's attitude softened at this point.
"Alright, just remember not to reveal your true identity and cause trouble for me."
Sofia seemed about to say something more, but the man beside her couldn't wait any longer, caressing her neck and leaning in to kiss Sofia passionately, producing an audible smooching sound.
"Mark, don't do that;I'm on the phone."
Ending their passionate kiss,Sofia pushed Mark aside in anger, her lips pouting.Annie, standing nearby, was taken aback by this sudden turn of events and stared ahead in astonishment.
"So,Sofia, regardless of Finn being your fiancé,how can you be with another man?"Annie asked, her tone serious.
Contrary to Annie's gravity,Sofia responded with a faint laugh."Well, what's the harm?Even if I married Finn for real,we'd only be husband and wife in name.I can love as many men as I want;Finn has no right to interfere."
"Don't be so naive,Annie.Everyone in this high society is like that,"Sofia added coldly.
With those words,Sofia abruptly turned and kissed Mark's lips beside her, passionately and satisfyingly, their bodies quickly entwining.Clothes began to fall to the ground, and Annie's expression became increasingly dazed, her eyes closing to savor the comfort as Mark gently kissed her collarbone and slowly descended.
Meanwhile,Annie remained seated, her face flushed from the intense kissing sounds she had heard earlier. She couldn't believe how casual her younger sister had become after all these years.
Annie remained stunned for a while before regaining her composure and looking out the window. She noticed that it had long since grown dark outside and sighed softly.
Her dry throat made her uncomfortable,so she decided to go downstairs to find some water to drink. As she opened the door to leave the room, she heard faint footsteps on the staircase, and a few more steps revealed Finn's tall figure slowly descending.
Finn was the kind of person who disliked relying on others,so he always tried to do everything himself.Even though the lights were on inside the house,he still had to be careful with each step as he couldn't see much, making his progress seem somewhat laborious.
Annie silently followed behind, not saying a word. But when she noticed Finn stumbling and about to fall, she quickly grabbed his shirt and pulled him upright.
"Be careful!"Annie softly exclaimed, successfully steadying Finn from behind. The feeling of stumbling and almost falling suddenly disappeared, and in Finn's ear,he heard a gentle, soothing voice as light as a spring breeze. His nose also detected a faint scent of lavender, which was incredibly pleasant.
The distance between the two seemed much closer,as Finn could faintly hear the rapid beating of Annie's heart as she held him up.
At this moment,Annie became aware that they were too close right now and realized the closeness wasn't right. After helping Finn stand upright, she stepped back, her voice soft as she explained.
