On our wedding day, he actually took his foster sister’s hand, half joking, tilted his head toward her, and called her the bride.
The next second, the wedding dress that was supposed to be mine was draped over her shoulders by his own hands.
The guests shifted awkwardly but did not dare speak up. They rushed to smooth things over.
“It’s all family, just a joke.”
“Ulyssa won’t mind. She’s always so sensible.”
They all assumed that, just like the past five years, I would swallow every grievance, hide in a corner, and hurt in silence.
But I simply smiled, pulled out a chair among the guests, and sat down to calmly enjoy the meal.
Only when he finally realized something was wrong did he panic, hastily shove the wrinkled wedding dress back into my arms, and pretend nothing had happened as he spoke gently.
“Ulyssa, come up. Everyone is waiting for you. Don’t hold things up.”
I looked up at him, my expression as calm as if a century had passed.
Then, right in front of him, I tossed the wedding ring into the trash bin.
“Felix, I’m not marrying you.”
He froze. Until that moment, he had no idea that the dress his foster sister had just played with and trampled on was the same one he had begged me to accept five years ago, kneeling outside my door in the rain for three hours, refusing to leave.
I endured for five years, not because I was weak, but because back then he had pursued me with real sincerity for five years.
But now he has lost his memory.
And the five year promise has expired.
I no longer have any reason to stay.
I took out my phone, opened a number that had been buried for three years, and made the call.
A warm and steady voice answered. “Ulyssa?”
In a low voice, I asked, “Three years ago, you said you would marry me. Does that still count?”
……
“Ulyssa, it’s just a wedding dress. I can buy you another one later. Come up and start the ceremony.”
“Today is a happy day. Everyone is waiting for you.”
Seeing that I still wasn’t stepping onto the stage, Felix finally lost his patience. Taking advantage of all the eyes on us, he kept urging me.
His groomsmen sensed something was wrong and came over to persuade me.
“Sis, Felix already agreed to marry you. Don’t throw a tantrum over a dress. Come up.”
“Exactly. You’ve followed Felix for so many years, we all saw it. He might not have you in his heart, but he’s willing to marry you, and that already gives you plenty of face. Don’t make a fuss at an occasion like this.”
They all assumed I would behave like before, that as long as Felix said a few words, I would swallow the hurt and quietly return to his side.
But this time, I simply looked at them calmly. My voice was flat, without a trace of emotion.
“I’m not getting married.”
The moment the words fell, the entire hall froze. Then laughter burst out.
“She’s probably waiting for Felix to coax her.”
“A woman who forces herself onto a man, and now she’s making a scene over a dress. Embarrassing Felix like this in public. How is she supposed to live in that house after marriage?”
“Felix, listen to us. A woman who clings and throws tantrums like this is trouble.”
Relatives from the Gu family were whispering loudly in the guest seats, full of criticism and contempt.
They never saw me as a person, only as an attachment they expected to stay obedient at all times.
I didn’t intend to waste breath on a group of stubborn elders, so I picked a corner seat and sat down.
Not even two seconds later, Felix walked over with a dark expression.
“Ulyssa, what are you doing on our wedding day? Just over a dress, you make me lose face in front of everyone. Do you know how many elders are watching?”
“Stop making trouble, alright? Tracy is just my sister. She tried on your dress for fun. So what? No matter what you wear, you’re still my wife.”
He didn’t mention my feelings at all. His mouth was full of blame, as if I were the one causing him trouble.
After speaking, he grabbed my hand and tried to drag me onto the stage by force.
I couldn’t hold back anymore. I let out a soft laugh, shook off his hand, and spoke even more clearly than before.
“I told you, I’m not making trouble. Felix, I’m simply not getting married.”
He rubbed his forehead, letting out a helpless laugh as though dealing with a stubborn child.
“Ulyssa, what do you want? You’re really still hung up on the dress?”
“Is it worth it? Fine, I’ll have the emcee buy a new one from somewhere nearby. Come up with me and finish the ceremony first, alright?”
After saying that, he shot me a look that allowed no refusal, then turned to instruct the emcee.
He never once asked why I didn’t want to marry him.
I ignored him. A cold, humorless smile appeared as an image flashed in my mind: the boy from five years ago, before his memory was gone, holding this same dress and begging me in a trembling voice to accept it.
The moment I returned to my senses, Tracy suddenly screamed and collapsed to the ground.
“Felix, my waist… it hurts… Was it the wedding dress I tried earlier? I must be allergic. Someone must have wanted to harm me… but I know it wasn’t Ulyssa…”
The more she cried, the worse she sounded, tears falling one after another, her voice so weak it could break any moment.
Felix panicked immediately. He rushed over and lifted her into his arms, his voice filled with fury and accusation.
“Ulyssa, how dare you lay a hand on Tracy? You really have some nerve!”
He shouted while dialing the emergency number.
As he passed by me, he slammed his shoulder hard into mine.

“Ulyssa, you really are something. When I come back, I’ll deal with you.”
“It wasn’t me.”
My voice was cold.
But it only earned an angrier shout from him.
“Who else could it be? The dress was in your hands the whole time, and you’re still denying it? Do you have no conscience at all?”
My patience snapped. My tone turned even colder.
“I said it wasn’t me. Felix, are you incapable of understanding human speech?”
The moment the words left my mouth, Tracy let out another sharp cry of pain in his arms.
“Felix, it hurts… don’t blame Ulyssa. She didn’t mean to…”
Felix never wanted to hear my explanation. He shot me a vicious glare and carried Tracy away.
Mocking laughter burst out around me immediately.
“The real bride isn’t even as valued as the foster sister. No wonder she had to throw herself at him.”
“Bride? She can’t even keep the groom’s attention. Even when she begs, nobody wants her.”
Every word hit like a thorn, but I didn’t even bother lifting my eyelids. I simply sat back down.
As the noise faded, I had just finished eating when my phone buzzed.
An anonymous account sent a message.
“Oh dear, sorry Ulyssa. I’m a little allergic to outdated wedding dress styles. Forgot to tell you.”
“Your favorite dress… it must already be in the trash by now, right? A five year old design, carrying your devotion to Felix… sigh, my apologies.”
Every sentence dripped with mockery.
It was obviously Tracy.
I was about to reply when Felix’s name flashed across my screen.
The ringtone felt like the continuation of this ridiculous play.
“Get over here and apologize, Ulyssa! What did you do to Tracy? Why would you hurt her like that?”
“She only tried your dress for a moment. And you tampered with it?”
His roar shook my eardrums. Soon after, under his command, the driver dragged me from the venue and forced me to the hospital.
When I pushed the door open, Tracy lay on the bed with a rosy face and teary eyes.
“Felix, I know Ulyssa didn’t mean it… after all, the dress was from years ago.”
Her voice was soft, trembling just enough.
“Back then, Ulyssa hadn’t even started chasing you, right? Or… did she already like you and buy the dress early, swearing she would only marry you?”
Each line was more venomous than the last, twisting the issue from allergies to the origin of the dress.
Felix listened, then predictably turned to me with a dark look and a mocking curl of his lips.
“Ulyssa, you really are pathetic. You bought a dress years in advance? And now you pretend you’re above all this.”
He lifted his chin and ordered coldly.
“Get over here and apologize to Tracy. I can let go of your disrespect.”
I only lowered my head and massaged the wrist the driver had bruised. I didn’t spare Felix a single glance.
The wedding dress he once begged me to accept had now become evidence that I was desperate to marry him.
He really knew how to twist the truth.
I let out a soft laugh, which made him even angrier.
“Ulyssa, are you deaf? I told you to apologize!”
“And you still dare laugh? The only reason I agreed to marry you was because you chased me for five years. I pitied you!”
“You dared hurt Tracy? I’m warning you, I can cancel this wedding any time!”
He was roaring, veins bulging, and I answered in a calm voice.
“Then cancel it.”
The air froze. He stared at me in disbelief.
“What did you say?!”
I kept the same cold smile and repeated every word clearly.

He was about to explode, but suddenly paused as if something clicked. A knowing expression appeared on his face.
“Ulyssa, even jealousy has limits.”
“Tracy is my foster sister. No matter how much you like me, you shouldn’t take it out on her.”
His tone was the same as speaking to a pet, full of patronizing pity, convinced I was hopelessly devoted to him.
I only looked at him calmly.
I would be leaving for good soon, so I no longer cared to argue.
Morning light crept in. The rash on Tracy’s skin had already disappeared.
Before they left, Felix supported her with exaggerated concern. He still turned back to give me a cold warning.
“I’ll send Tracy home first. If you have any sense, you’ll apologize to her. I might be kind enough to give you a ride.”
His eyes held the same disdain one would show a beggar.
Tracy added her own provocation.
“Ulyssa, don’t blame Felix. He only worried because I’m too delicate.”
“As for the dress, I know you didn’t mean it…”
Before she could finish, I pulled out my phone and called a car.
I didn’t give them a single word and walked away.
Felix’s furious shouting was left behind me.
“Ulyssa, I’m giving you one last chance! Miss it and there won’t be another!”
I never looked back.
His so called last chance sounded like a joke.
Back home, I was packing when Felix called again.
“Ulyssa, I’ll give you extra time.”
“Tracy said as long as you wear the dress she tried earlier and finish the wedding with me, she’ll forgive you immediately.”
His tone was high and mighty, like he was granting me a favor.
I hung up without answering.
Then I found the number hidden at the bottom of my drawer and pressed call.
“You once said you wanted to marry me. Does that still count?”
A low, lazy chuckle came from the other side.
“What is it? You rejected me so many times, and now you think of me? As long as it’s you, it always counts, princess.”
For the first time that day, my heart felt steady.
But the moment I hung up, Tracy’s messages flooded in.
“Ulyssa, remember to wear the dress Felix and I played with tomorrow. Exciting, isn’t it?”
“Chased him for five years, and he never played with you like this, right?”
“Oh, and be careful digging the dress out of the trash. Don’t get your hands dirty.”
Then came photos of her and Felix in intimate poses.
Touching, flirting, reckless.
I felt nothing. Not even a frown.
I continued packing the last of my things.
Soon, the door was kicked open.
Felix stormed in.
“Ulyssa! How many times have I told you? Tracy is my foster sister! How dare you treat the dress she wore like that?!”
Before the words ended, he grabbed my collar and slammed me to the ground.
Falling with me was the torn wedding dress.
Tracy rushed in with perfect timing, dropping to her knees beside the dress.
“Felix, I only wore it for a moment… and Ulyssa threw it into the trash… it’s all my fault… I shouldn’t have touched her dress… Felix, please don’t blame her…”
She cried while cradling the dress like a priceless treasure, shielding it with her body.
Felix frowned with heartache and pulled her into his arms immediately.
The look he gave me was pure disgust and rage.
“Ulyssa, I’ll say it again. Apologize to Tracy.”
“Otherwise, forget about marrying me!”
He held the weeping Tracy in his arms while screaming down at me like a king disciplining a servant.

That look on his face, full of confidence, as if I would kneel and beg him at any moment.
Even now, he still thought I was desperate to marry him.
“Fine, I’ll apologize.”
I spoke calmly. “But it has to wait until the wedding tomorrow.”
The moment I said it, Felix’s expression shifted into one of absolute certainty.
“I knew it.”
“You chased me for so many years. How could you possibly give up the chance to marry me?”
“Ulyssa, see? You should have surrendered earlier.”
“You had to make such a scene and force me to lay hands on you before you’d behave.”
After saying that, he even lowered his head in a show of concern to check the injury he caused when he threw me. Pretending to care.
I let him perform.
After all, tomorrow’s show would not work without this setup.
The next day, the wedding hall was packed.
The guests were whispering, every sentence dripping with ridicule.
“I thought she had guts. She made such a fuss the other day, but in the end she still came crawling back.”
“She really thinks she’s someone. Felix only pities her and she dares put on airs.”
The officiant was reciting the vows, the atmosphere solemn. I stood in the center, listening quietly.
Felix, in a tailored suit, leaned close to whisper sternly in my ear.
“It’s time to apologize, isn’t it? Ulyssa, I agreed to your little request. Now you’ll apologize to Tracy. No more excuses.”
His tone sounded like a man granting charity.
“Of course,” I answered slowly.
The next second, I lifted my hand, ripped off the wedding dress I was wearing, and threw it directly over his head.
“My sincere apologies, Felix.”
“This dress you gave me five years ago, I kept it for you all this time. Now I’m returning it.”
The hall erupted instantly.
Screams, gasps, confusion, chaos.
Felix was hit squarely by the dress. His face turned red with fury. He tore the dress to shreds and roared:
“Ulyssa, what are you trying to do? Stop this now and I’ll still give you a chance to apologize to Tracy!”
I laughed.
“Of course I’m here to apologize.”
“For an agreement, I acted beside you for five whole years. Now it’s time to say goodbye.”
“What did you say?”
His face changed, his brows tightening so hard they could crush an ant.
“What agreement? What act? Five years? Explain!”
I looked at him lightly, as if watching a ridiculous clown.
“You’re so smart. Why don’t you guess?”
I turned to leave, but he grabbed me again, holding me in a painful grip.
“Ulyssa! Don’t play games with me!”
“Tell me clearly! What is this?”
His voice trembled with real panic and unease.
Right then, Tracy seized the moment perfectly, rushing into his arms with tears falling instantly.
“Felix, it’s all my fault… don’t make things hard for Ulyssa…”
“She didn’t mean it… otherwise why would she make up something so… so obviously false, saying she acted with you for five years…”
“She has had it hard too…”
“And about the dress, it’s a five year old style. Ulyssa must have loved you too much… she didn’t mean to make me allergic…”
Her fake gentleness stabbed into every ear like needles.
Before she even finished, the confusion on Felix’s face instantly turned into outright rage.
“Ulyssa, how long do you plan to keep this up? Is it that hard to apologize to Tracy?”
“To avoid a simple apology, you made up such a cheap lie? You think these little tricks can fool me? Apologize now!”
His tone was vicious, as if the panic moments before had been my imagination.
He even tried to grab my collar again.
I smiled, stepped aside, and pulled out the paper agreement from my bag. I slapped it across his face with a sharp crack.

“Open your eyes and look carefully.”
“This is the agreement we both signed five years ago. And you’re calling me a liar?”
“Your signature, your fingerprint, the official company seal. You think I forged all that out of thin air?”
The moment the paper hit his face, the entire venue fell into absolute silence.
Felix held the document, his expression changing visibly.
He stared at every line of the agreement, his pupils shrinking little by little.
A second later, he clutched his head in pain, dazed, as if some violently buried memory was struggling to resurface.
Tracy immediately threw herself at him, crying so hard her voice trembled.
“Felix, Ulyssa must love you too much… that’s why she made up these memories to hold on to you…”
“Don’t blame her, she didn’t mean it. She just cares about you too much…”
“She’s afraid of losing you, that’s why she’s saying all this…”
The more she cried, the more it looked like she was defending me, yet every word pushed me deeper toward the edge.
I didn’t even give her a glance.
Because five minutes ago, the person I was waiting for sent me a message: “I’m here.”
While the two of them were still putting on a performance, I turned and walked away in the chaos, my steps clean and decisive.
Outside the wedding hall, the sunlight was perfect.
A black Maybach was parked at the end of the red carpet, and a man leaned casually against its side, hands in his pockets.
When he saw me run out, he lifted his gaze. The corner of his lips curved slowly.
That smile was gentler than the spring breeze, yet sharper than a blade.
“Let’s go.”
He reached his hand toward me, his voice steady and warm.
“I’m taking you home as my wife.”
