After our father died, my sister and I inherited a fortune, a luxury villa, and a tiny convenience store.
She took the money and the mansion without hesitation, leaving me with the old shop everyone looked down on.
One month later, the apocalypse began.
A zombie outbreak swept through the world overnight. The rich became trapped in their homes with no food, no power, and no way out.
My sister, once proud of her mansion and millions, ended up starving behind locked gates.
Meanwhile, I survived comfortably inside the convenience store I had rebuilt into a fortress, living off endless supplies of snacks, canned food, and soda.
When my sister collapsed on the streets begging for help, I risked my life to save her.
But greed was stronger than gratitude.
After eating my food and recovering her strength, she waited until I fell asleep… then threw me outside to be torn apart by zombies.
The moment I died, I opened my eyes again.
I had returned to the day we divided the inheritance.
This time, my sister smugly grabbed the convenience store first, convinced she had stolen the better deal.
What she didn’t know was that I had been reborn too.
And this time, I came back with a Apocalypse Survival System.
While she fought over scraps, the villa she abandoned would become the safest shelter left in the world.
Chapter 1
At our father’s funeral, Sharon Shaw cried so hard her face was streaked with tears and mucus.
“I don’t care about the inheritance. I just want Dad’s tiny convenience store, so I can hold on to the roots he came from.”
She sounded so sincere that even the relatives attending the funeral had red eyes by the end of it.
One after another, they praised Sharon for being such a devoted daughter.
But when they looked at me, their eyes were filled with contempt, saying my sister generously gave me the multimillion-dollar inheritance and the estate, yet I showed no gratitude at all.
They wondered how the Shaw family had produced such an ungrateful brat.
I resisted the urge to roll my eyes.
Sharon didn’t genuinely want the convenience store.
She only knew that in one month, a zombie virus would sweep across the globe.
By then, money would be worthless, while the supplies inside that tiny store would become the key to survival.
But what Sharon didn’t know was that in the apocalypse, having supplies meant nothing.
The real challenge was keeping them in your hands.
Everyone would be watching our resources like starving wolves.
Without the strength to hold on to our supplies, we were as good as dead.
Once the funeral ended, Sharon instantly dropped the grief-stricken act.
A mocking smile curled at her lips, as if she were silently telling me that this time, in the apocalypse, she would be the one lounging around eating snacks and drinking soda while watching others struggle to survive.
I remained expressionless, pretending not to notice the provocation in her eyes.
There was only one month left before the apocalypse arrived. I had no time to waste watching her schemes.
In my previous life, I only thought the convenience store Dad left behind looked too old and run-down to attract customers, so I hired people to renovate it according to my design, reinforcing it with steel and concrete.
I never expected a zombie outbreak to happen afterward.
That tiny convenience store became unbelievably sturdy after the renovations, turning into my warm sanctuary in the apocalypse.
Back then, I managed to build a temporary shelter with only limited funds.
Now, I had millions sitting in my bank account.
But even that wasn’t enough.
I contacted a furniture marketplace and asked them to come appraise everything inside the estate.
I didn’t care about bargaining.
My only requirement was that every piece of furniture I didn’t need had to be sold and converted into cash by the end of the day.
The moment the money hit my account, I immediately contacted a friend who used to handle security at a military base before starting his own elite residential defense consulting firm.
His team and I worked together to renovate the estate, filling in all the details I might have overlooked.
At my request, the pointed iron fencing surrounding the property was torn out completely and replaced with towering walls at least fifty feet high.
Stairways were built along the inner side, perfect for long-range defense positions.
Chapter 2
The estate’s front gate was replaced with the same reinforced alloy used in tank armor, completely bulletproof and impossible to break through by force.
The keypad and keyhole mounted on the surface were nothing more than decorations.
The real control system was linked to a remote in my possession.
Without it, no one could open the gate.
If anyone tried entering a password or picking the lock, a hidden micro-camera above the entrance would immediately scan their face and send the footage directly to my phone.
If the person had a criminal record, the system would issue an additional alert.
A full three-hundred-sixty-degree surveillance system was equally essential.
Besides the sixteen visible security cameras, another twenty miniature cameras were hidden throughout the property.
It wasn’t an exaggeration to say that even a fly wouldn’t be able to enter unnoticed.
Every window in the villa was replaced with one-way glass. I could see everything outside, while no one could peek in and learn what was happening inside the house.
Finally, I ordered every ornamental plant in the courtyard cut down.
Since there were already so many workers on-site, I had them loosen and replace all the soil as well.
I planned to turn the courtyard into a vegetable garden.
That way, even during the apocalypse, I’d still be able to eat fresh produce.
When everything was finally complete, even the security consultant laughed and asked if I really needed to make such a huge fuss over inheriting an estate.
He joked that after spending money like this, there probably wouldn’t be much left of my inheritance.
I didn’t bother explaining.
I only joked back that if some massive disaster ever happened, all of this would come in handy.
I glanced at the calendar, surprised by how quickly time had passed. Thankfully, the estate renovations were completed three days before the apocalypse began.
Even though I already knew no one could escape tomorrow’s disaster, I still found myself unable to sleep for the first time in ages.
As I tossed and turned in bed, a mechanical voice suddenly rang out in my head.
[Congratulations, Host. You have successfully bound to the Apocalypse Survival System. Detected: initial shelter renovation completed. Reward points will now be issued.]
A system?
Reward points?
I had no idea why something like this had appeared, but one thing was certain—this would greatly increase my chances of surviving until the very end of the apocalypse.
After browsing through all the rewards the system offered, I chose to upgrade the estate’s underground cold storage into an infinite-capacity preservation space capable of keeping food permanently fresh.
The enormous cellar instantly solved the problem of my home having only two refrigerators and one freezer.
Anything stored inside would remain untouched by expiration dates, meaning I could stockpile food without any worries.
On the final day before the apocalypse, after carefully screening candidates, I hired a private chef along with ten retired special forces soldiers who were former special forces soldiers.
I wasn’t much of a cook. It would’ve been ridiculous if the zombies failed to kill me, only for my own cooking to finish the job instead.
I promised them that as long as they worked loyally here, I would provide them with more than enough food and clean water.
At first, they had no idea what I was talking about, but I wasn’t in a hurry. I simply told them to stay the night and give me their answer the next morning.
On the final night before the apocalypse, sleep completely eluded me.
Unable to rest, I got up and began checking my supplies one by one.
My wardrobe was stocked with enough underwear and clothes for regular changes.
I still didn’t know how long the apocalypse would last.
Even though it was still summer, warm clothing was absolutely essential.
I had also stockpiled boxes upon boxes of tampons.
During times like these, poor hygiene could easily lead to infections.
Even in the apocalypse, personal hygiene wasn’t something I could afford to neglect.
The shelves inside the cold cellar were packed with fresh meat, vegetables, and fruit—enough to feed everyone in the house for well over a decade.
Combined with the mountains of instant food stored outside, surviving until the government found a solution wouldn’t be a problem.
Once I confirmed everything was in place, I finally returned to bed and closed my eyes.
Chapter 3
The next morning, the guards and chef were already awake before I was.
I had barely finished washing up when I saw them standing in the main hall waiting for me.
Judging from the looks on their faces, they had already seen what was happening outside.
I turned toward the street beyond the one-way glass just in time to see a swarm of grotesque zombies roaming the roads.
Some still vaguely resembled humans, but most were drenched in blood, their faces twisted into horrifying shapes. A few were so badly mutilated that their organs spilled out as they ran.
Even these hardened men, veterans who had seen more than enough bloodshed in their lives, had gone pale.
At that point, I didn’t need to say another word. They willingly chose to stay and work as my security team.
The chef practically fled into the kitchen to prepare breakfast. With his thin frame, it felt like he’d be torn apart the second he stepped outside.
A few minutes later, he placed a freshly prepared meal in front of me and lifted the silver cover.
The rich aroma of steak instantly filled the room.
Before I could even take a bite, the sharp chime of the security keypad suddenly echoed throughout the entire estate.
That had been one of the intentional design features.
Anyone pressing the keypad would obviously be an outsider.
The alarm served as a warning for whoever was outside to leave immediately.
And if they refused to go, the piercing sound would eventually attract zombies.
A woman’s voice soon came through the intercom loud and clear.
She was sobbing hysterically, begging me to let her in.
Behind her, a horde of zombies slowly closed in.
Faced with her desperate cries, I simply remained seated and continued cutting into the steak I hadn’t even gotten to taste yet.
Not only did I keep eating, I even gestured for the guards and the chef to sit down as well. There was enough food for everyone.
The guards were trained professionals. They understood that in a world like this, survival came first.
Only the chef still carried the kind of compassion that no longer belonged in the apocalypse. He kept glancing anxiously toward the door.
“You want to let her in?” I asked.
The hesitation in his eyes gave him away immediately.
I didn’t force my opinion on him.
Instead, I calmly asked, “Forget whether she’s a good person or not. I can let her inside if you want. But our food supply is limited. Are you willing to give her your portion?”
Every resource in this estate belonged to me. The chef had sacrificed nothing, which was why he could afford to be generous with someone else’s supplies.
But the moment my question touched his own interests, he was forced to think about whether my refusal actually made sense.
Cruel as it was, that was simply how survival worked in the apocalypse.
While we were talking, the girl’s screams were abruptly swallowed by the zombie horde surging toward her.
The monitor turned into a blur of red.
All of us sat there silently, watching her body get dragged apart and devoured piece by piece.
We knew we should look away.
But none of us could.
Because only by being terrified enough could we find the will to keep surviving.
After devouring the girl, the zombies still didn’t seem satisfied.
They began slamming themselves against the gate, the heavy steel doors rattling violently with every impact.
But my gate was built from the same reinforced alloy used in tank armor.
It could withstand bullets without a problem, so there was no way I’d worry about zombies breaking through.
After all that crashing and clawing, they hadn’t even left a scratch on it.
What truly sent a chill down my spine was what happened next.
Some of the zombies seemed to realize forcing the gate open was pointless. Instead, they began trying to climb the walls.
Their sharp nails dug deep into the concrete as they slowly dragged themselves upward, managing to scale nearly fifteen feet.
Thankfully, I had already stationed guards along the walls. With their marksmanship, there was no chance any zombie would make it over alive.
Even so, unease settled heavily in my chest.
Did this mean some of the zombies weren’t mindless corpses after all?
Did they still retain the ability to think?
Chapter 4
Because of that, I spent the entire night reinforcing the walls again.
Using the survival points I had left, I upgraded the structure to make it even stronger.
I also exchanged points for a slick industrial coating, making the walls nearly impossible to climb.
Even if the zombies managed to get partway up, they’d slide right back down.
Only after everything was finished did I finally return to my room and get some sleep.
The next morning, the first rays of sunlight slipped through the curtains and spilled across my soft bed.
By the time I washed up and headed downstairs, the chef had already prepared breakfast according to my nutritional needs.
As I ate, I scrolled through the internet while communication networks were still barely functioning, checking the latest news about the apocalypse.
Posts in countless different languages flooded every platform, but they all carried the same emotions: fear and despair.
The sudden zombie outbreak had thrown the entire world into chaos.
And yet, while everyone else panicked, I remained perfectly calm, leisurely finishing my breakfast before pouring myself a cup of freshly brewed coffee.
Then a video suddenly appeared on the front page.
Someone had uploaded footage of the girl who came begging for help at my estate a few days earlier.
The video clearly showed me standing upstairs, coldly watching everything through the window while ignoring the girl’s screams and pleas for help.
The uploader even exposed my personal information and the address of my estate.
At a time when the entire world was gripped by fear, my refusal to save her unsurprisingly ignited public outrage.
Alongside the video, they also leaked records of the supplies I’d purchased before the apocalypse.
In an instant, everyone learned that I possessed enormous amounts of food and resources.
The uploader passionately claimed that someone as heartless as me staying alive would only lower everyone else’s chances of survival.
According to her, the survivors should unite and storm my estate together.
As long as they succeeded, she promised she would redistribute my supplies to those truly in need.
Her supposed kindness and compassion stood in sharp contrast to my cold indifference.
The internet exploded almost immediately.
As expected, the comment section overwhelmingly supported her.
Within minutes, people began organizing groups dedicated to “taking down” my estate.
Watching the online mob rapidly grow larger, I remained completely unfazed.
I couldn’t even be bothered to defend myself, because I already understood one thing clearly:
In the apocalypse, having resources was a crime in itself.
Besides, after all my renovations, the estate’s defenses had become virtually indestructible.
Even zombies couldn’t get inside, so how could ordinary humans possibly break through?
Still, the moment I saw the video, I immediately sensed something was wrong.
Every window in the estate had been replaced with one-way glass.
So how could anyone possibly have filmed my face from outside?
I instantly realized the video had been part of a carefully planned setup.
When I clicked on the uploader’s profile, the account was obviously brand new.
It had only ever posted that single video.
The person behind the account clearly didn’t want their identity exposed.
But I already knew exactly who it was.
In this world, the only person who couldn’t stand seeing me live well was my dear sister, Sharon.
Back when I first moved into the estate, she showed up once wearing that fake, affectionate smile of hers.
She told me the estate only fell into my hands because she’d generously given it up and reminded me not to forget the kindness she showed me.
If I hadn’t lived through my previous life, I might actually have believed her.
I stayed on guard around her and never allowed her inside.
The gifts she brought were thrown away the moment they touched my hands.
After she left, I had the estate’s entire front gate replaced immediately.
From that point on, she never appeared within range of my surveillance system again.
So how had she managed to monitor me so closely despite all the security measures?
Unable to shake the feeling that something was wrong, I took the ten guards and searched the entire estate again, tearing through every inch of the property.
Chapter 5
These men went through rigorous military training.
Every one of them had been among the best in their unit, highly skilled in surveillance and counter-surveillance tactics.
And yet, even after searching the estate from top to bottom, they still failed to find a single clue.
Then a terrifying thought suddenly flashed through my mind.
What if Sharon had a system too?
The possibility left me deeply unsettled.
I needed answers and fast.
Before the apocalypse began, I purchased several drones.
Originally, I planned to use them to monitor the blind spots beyond the estate’s security cameras.
I never imagined the first person I’d use them against would be my own sister.
The convenience store Dad left behind wasn’t far from the estate, and it didn’t take long for the drone to circle above it.
Even so, I hesitated to move closer.
If Sharon really had a system as well, then the defenses around that store might not be any weaker than mine.
To test her, I remotely created a small noise disturbance nearby using the drone.
A moment later, the curtains inside the convenience store shifted open just a crack.
Sharon cautiously peeked through the gap with one eye exposed, only relaxing after confirming there were no zombies nearby.
If she truly had a surveillance system in place, she wouldn’t have relied on such a primitive way of checking outside.
That thought finally eased some of my tension.
Gathering my courage, I guided the drone closer and peered into the store through gaps in the old wooden boards.
Sure enough, Sharon never noticed it.
The drone’s live-feed system transmitted both video and audio clearly to my phone.
Sharon sat curled up in a corner with an opened bag of potato chips tossed beside her. Empty wrappers littered the floor around her.
It looked like choosing the convenience store had improved her quality of life this time around.
She seemed to be talking to someone on the phone, sounding surprisingly relaxed as she tightened her coat around herself.
I remembered it clearly from my previous life.
Even though it was supposed to be summer, the wind outside felt as cold and biting as winter.
Thankfully, I had completely renovated the convenience store back then.
The place had been sealed tight against the cold, and I could even wrap myself in thick down blankets to stay warm.
But Sharon wasn’t nearly as fortunate.
Although she’d seen the renovated store in my previous life, she had always been reckless with money and never managed to save any.
In order to get the convenience store this time, she handed over the multimillion-dollar inheritance to me entirely.
Now she could only reinforce the store herself.
The steel plates she nailed up were crooked and uneven, with countless gaps left unsealed.
At that moment, she could only huddle in the corner, burning scraps of paper with a lighter to keep herself warm.
The chef made everyone a cup of hot cocoa.
I lay sprawled across my soft bed with the heater running, comfortably enjoying the warmth while listening in on Sharon’s phone call through the drone’s audio feed.
Most of the conversation was meaningless chatter.
The person on the other end was probably her boyfriend. Sharon deliberately softened her voice into an overly sweet, affected tone that made my skin crawl.
But the moment I heard my name, I immediately sat upright.
Just as I suspected, Sharon had a system too.
Only hers was completely different from mine.
Mine was an Apocalypse Survival System.
Hers was a Resource Plundering System.
As long as she targeted someone’s supplies and successfully carried out the theft, the system would assist her and reward her with points.
Laughing smugly into the phone, she exaggerated every detail about how hard I and the guards had worked that afternoon trying to locate the microscopic surveillance devices she’d exchanged through her system.
She even bragged about pretending to “kindly” encourage her estranged friend to come begging at my estate for shelter and supplies, deliberately using the girl as a disposable pawn to get me targeted by everyone else.
No wonder that girl had looked so familiar.
In the apocalypse, human greed was far more terrifying than monsters.
Before ending the call, Sharon proudly added that the video she uploaded had already gathered a large group of people eyeing my resources.
She confidently declared that by tomorrow, I’d die at the hands of that mob.
And once I was dead, she would use her system to seize my estate and all my supplies for herself.
Chapter 6
A cold laugh escaped me.
So,what if Sharon had a system too?
Someone stupid enough to spend all her effort spying on others instead of installing proper surveillance around her own shelter was doomed sooner or later, no matter how overpowered her cheat abilities were.
The next morning, I was awakened by the constant vibration of my phone.
The moment I checked the screen, I saw that a crowd had already gathered outside my estate.
I didn’t even need to guess who they were.
They were the same people online who had been shouting about “bringing justice” by storming my estate and taking all my supplies.
As the facial recognition system scanned them one by one, their information immediately appeared on my phone.
No wonder they were acting so fearless.
Every single one of them had a criminal record.
They probably thought I was just some young woman living alone and assumed I wouldn’t stand a chance against a group of armed men carrying machetes and clubs.
The miniature cameras mounted above the gate transmitted their conversation clearly through the speakers.
The guards stationed along the walls had obviously intimidated them, because none of them dared to make the first move.
I leisurely finished washing up before heading downstairs, casually calling the guards down from the walls to join me for breakfast.
One of them hesitated before asking if I was really sure everything would be fine. The men outside looked aggressive and clearly prepared for trouble.
Completely unbothered, I took a bite of crispy toast and calmly told him to trust me.
Honestly, I was more worried they’d get scared off and leave without doing anything.
Sure enough, the moment the guards stepped away from the walls, the group outside couldn’t hold back anymore.
They immediately pulled out weapons and started hacking at the gate.
But no matter how hard they swung, they couldn’t leave so much as a scratch behind.
One man with a scar running across his face motioned for everyone else to step back.
He was clearly the leader of the group. The second he spoke, everyone obediently scattered aside, leaving him standing alone in front of the gate.
When I pulled up his information, I almost laughed.
His criminal record list was so long.
Scarface pulled a handgun from his pocket and fired directly at the lock.
When nothing happened, he fired two more shots.
The recoil numbed his hand, but the gate remained completely untouched.
Furious, he cursed loudly and kicked the gate several times to vent his anger.
Outside, they were causing chaos.
Meanwhile, inside the estate, I remained perfectly calm, practically treating them like a live reality show to enjoy alongside breakfast.
I had already noticed something earlier that morning.
Ever since they’d started attacking the gate, my survival points had been steadily increasing.
That was exactly why I’d confidently withdrawn the guards and allowed the mob to do whatever they wanted.
The harder they attacked, the more Apocalypse Survival points I earned.
As for Sharon, she was already furious on the other side, screaming that the group was useless and whining that all the supplies she’d wasted on them had gone to waste.
So that was why they refused to give up.
It turned out Sharon was feeding them benefits behind the scenes all along.
The group quickly realized forcing their way through the gate was impossible, so they turned their attention to the walls surrounding the estate instead.
They weren’t completely stupid.
Thanks to the video online, they already knew what the outside of my estate looked like.
One by one, they pulled climbing gear from their backpacks, clearly planning to breach the estate from above.
A few days earlier, that might actually have worried me.
But after seeing zombies attempt to scale the walls, I reinforced everything overnight.
Now, I simply sat back on the sofa and enjoyed the show.
They had severely underestimated just how solid the walls were.
Some tried driving climbing spikes into the concrete, but no matter how hard they forced them in, the tips wouldn’t penetrate even a fraction of an inch.
Others attempted to hammer the spikes into the wall like nails, only to smash their own fingers instead and collapse to the ground howling in pain.
Eventually, Scarface lost his patience altogether.
He threw aside his tools and tried climbing the wall barehanded.
The lower section wasn’t too difficult, but the upper half had been coated with the special slick compound I exchanged through the system.
The second he reached that section, he slid right back down the wall like a wet eel.
Chapter 7
At first, I watched their struggles with genuine amusement.
But after a while, even that became boring.
Just how much had Sharon promised them?
Enough for them to keep climbing up and sliding back down over and over again like my walls were some kind of amusement park?
I narrowed my eyes and stared coldly at the surveillance feed before beckoning one of the guards over.
I’d earned more than enough survival points.
It was time to teach them a lesson.
Not long after, I heard complaints starting to spread through the crowd outside.
One man grumbled that Sharon clearly had plenty of food inside her convenience store, yet all she’d promised them was a single loaf of bread per day if they succeeded.
Meanwhile, the guards inside my estate were eating gourmet meals alongside me every day.
At that point, someone bluntly suggested they should just switch sides and work for me instead.
I nearly laughed out loud hearing that.
I already knew Sharon was stingy, but I didn’t expect her idea of winning loyalty was handing out bread.
As for those people trying to defect, I didn’t trust them for a second.
Anyone willing to betray their employer the moment they encountered someone stronger would eventually betray me too once an even bigger threat appeared.
Besides, they’d come here intending to kill me in the first place.
If I were the kind of saint who could forgive that, I would’ve opened the gate for that girl days ago and none of this would’ve happened.
Before I realized it, evening had arrived.
I specifically instructed the chef to prepare foie gras braised in red wine for dinner.
While he cooked, I deliberately opened the windows just enough for the rich aroma to drift outside with the wind.
I enlarged the camera feed and watched several people instinctively swallow.
Even some of the men who had already wanted to give up and leave stopped in their tracks, staring hungrily toward the estate.
I packaged one serving of the foie gras and tied it beneath a drone, then remotely flew it above their heads.
Someone immediately jumped up trying to snatch it, but I skillfully kept the drone hovering just out of reach—close enough for them to see and smell but never touch.
Then my voice slowly echoed from the intercom mounted on the gate.
I told them I heard every word of their conversation.
But I had no interest in feeding useless people.
I only wanted the strongest among them.
Whoever managed to claim the food would earn a place inside my estate.
In an instant, the way they looked at the meal changed completely.
Greed flooded their eyes.
Every single one of them understood what that meant.
Winning didn’t just guarantee one full meal—it meant safety, shelter, and survival for the foreseeable future.
The mob that had come to destroy me immediately fell apart.
Instead, they began viciously attacking each other in hopes of joining my side.
Their weapons were no longer aimed at my gate.
Now they swung them directly at the people who had been their allies moments earlier.
Dark blood splattered across the camera lens until even my live feed was stained a deep, violent red.
In the end, only Scarface remained completely unharmed.
Out of the dozen or so people there, he was the only one carrying a firearm. No one else dared challenge him directly.
He swept a contemptuous gaze across the injured men sprawled on the ground, then sneered at the others glaring at him from a distance—too angry to accept it, yet too afraid of the gun in his hand to do anything about it.
With absolute confidence, he removed the food from the drone and was just about to enjoy his reward when a piercing alarm suddenly exploded through the air.
Did he really think I’d let him eat, recover his strength, and calmly figure out how to deal with me afterward?
Long before sending out the food, I had already rigged a simple trigger mechanism onto the drone.
The moment the food was removed and the weight changed, the alarm automatically activated.
Scarface’s expression instantly darkened.
Everyone present knew exactly what that sound meant.
Zombies were attracted to noise.
Before arriving at my estate, they had already cleared the surrounding area of zombies.
The few drawn over by the noise at the gate had only been isolated roamers, easy enough to deal with.
Chapter 8
But this wasn’t some ordinary alarm.
The siren I’d installed was powerful enough to pierce through the entire district. Maybe not the whole city, but every zombie within this area could definitely hear it.
Even standing atop the walls without binoculars, I could already see thousands upon thousands of zombies surging toward us like a tidal wave in the distance.
As the horde drew closer, the people outside finally panicked.
They pounded desperately against the gate, begging me to let them in, but I remained completely unmoved.
Now they were afraid?
Too late.
Most of their strength had already been wasted in the fight among themselves. The more seriously injured ones couldn’t even stand anymore.
The lingering smell of blood from the earlier brawl only drove the zombies into a greater frenzy. The sounds of chewing flesh and terrified screams rose and fell one after another.
In their desperation to escape, some of them even carried the wounded on their backs.
The injured initially thought they were being rescued, hope briefly flickering in their eyes, only for that hope to turn into despair the moment they were thrown directly into the zombie horde as bait.
Coldly watching the survivors flee farther into the distance, I called for the guards to head up onto the walls and prepare their rifles.
In the apocalypse, anyone who posed a threat to me had to be dealt with quickly and decisively.
Mercy toward enemies was cruelty toward yourself.
But while my attention remained focused on the distant horde, I failed to notice something else entirely.
A dark gun barrel had silently aimed itself at me.
I was so focused on the chaos outside that I never realized Scarface hadn’t actually fled with the others.
Instead, he’d hidden beneath a nearby car during the confusion.
At that moment, his sights were locked directly onto my head.
All he had to do was pull the trigger, and he’d have a chance to become the new master of this estate.
A quiet laugh escaped my lips.
Did he really think I’d let that happen?
Just as Scarface was about to fire, he suddenly realized the area around the car had become completely surrounded by zombies.
What he still didn’t know was that alongside the foie gras, I had secretly attached a piece of raw, blood-covered meat.
The zombies’ sense of smell was incredibly sharp.
After devouring everyone else, they immediately caught the scent of fresh blood and converged toward the car where Scarface was hiding.
Honestly, I’d been wondering how long it would take to kill such a massive horde one by one.
Thanks to Scarface, things suddenly became much easier.
Nearly every zombie in the area had already been drawn here by the alarm, so I no longer had to worry about the noise attracting more of them.
I casually tossed the grenade up and down in my hand like a ball before hurling it toward the car where Scarface was hiding.
By the time Scarface managed to shove away the zombies around him, his entire body had already erupted into flames.
He staggered around screaming in agony, desperately trying to find water to put himself out.
But there was nothing here that could save him.
I watched expressionlessly as he burned into a charred corpse before collapsing onto the ground.
I wondered how many survival points the system would reward me after destroying this many zombies at once.
Thinking about that, I turned and walked back toward the estate.
This time, I absolutely had to exchange points for some kind of automatic cleaning system.
Otherwise, there was no way to deal with all the filth outside.
I had no intention of becoming the first person in the apocalypse to literally die from the smell.
Then suddenly, my vision went black.
A violent pain exploded through my body as I collapsed backward.
