To help my younger sister, Emily Lambert, recover from her asthma, I went out of my way to buy a private island known for its pristine air. However, on the very day she arrived, someone kicked her so hard that they broke her ribs, and she called me crying.
"Arthur, they're saying this island belongs to someone else! They're going to throw me into the ocean."
Through the phone, I heard the island manager's harsh voice. "This island is a gift from Ms. Wynter to her boyfriend! Who do you think you are? You're just a trash picker, and you think you can just show up here?"
Suddenly, everything clicked.
My wife, Cassie Wynter, had a boy toy on the side, and he was now trying to take over the island meant for Emily's recovery.
Well, that score needed to be settled.
Cassie and I had been married for two years. In that time, she had transformed from a nobody in a third-rate family to a powerful CEO controlling the luxury goods market.
Everyone said she had a gift for business, that she had the Midas touch. However, no one knew the truth: the exclusive royal supplier connections she wielded were resources I had risked my life for in the United Zahara.
I dialed the Zaharan Royal Family. "Prince Khalid, it's time you repaid the favor you owe me."
Chapter 1
I hung up the phone and slammed the speedboat's throttle all the way down. When the boat hit the beach, the dock was as chaotic as a flea market.
In the crowd, my sister, Emily Lambert, was curled up on the ground, her clothes disheveled and her appearance completely wrecked. She clutched her chest, gasping for air, her pale, sickly face streaked with tears.
The island's steward, Marcus Jenner, lifted his foot and kicked her without hesitation. "Little brat, didn't you hear me tell you to get lost? Don't you know whose place this is!"
"This is Ms. Cassie Wynter's special gift for Mr. Brandon Wilson's livestream debut. If you dirty the carpet, you couldn't pay for it even if we sold you!"
My expression turned ice-cold, and a gunshot rang through the air.
Marcus spun around in terror, but before he could react, I rushed forward and sent him flying with a single kick.
Emily looked up and saw me, utterly devastated. "Arthur."
Her face was turning purple, and she could barely get the words out. It was the telltale signs of an asthma attack.
Emily grabbed my hand, trembling nonstop. "Arthur, m-my inhaler, they took my inhaler."
I followed her gaze. Emily's life-saving inhaler was being crushed underfoot by someone else.
It was Brandon, a bleach-blonde influencer. He was speaking into his phone camera with exaggerated flair.
"Hey guys, I was going to show you my private island today, but this random girl showed up trying to pull a con. Poor people these days will do anything for clout, even trespassing on private property like this."
The livestream chat was going wild with comments calling Emily a sickly pest and scam artist.
Rage boiled up inside me as I stormed over to him and barked, "Move your foot."
Brandon flinched at my expression and instinctively took half a step back. However, he quickly recovered, let out a mocking laugh, and kicked the inhaler straight into the ocean.
Chapter 2
Brandon hissed, "Where did this hick come from? Did you bring this little beggar here? Do you have any idea who I am? Do you know who gave me this island?"
Watching Emily struggle in agony without her medication, my eyes instantly turned bloodshot as I growled, "I told you to get your foot off it, but you actually kicked the inhaler into the ocean?"
Brandon raised his chin, staring at me with open provocation. "So what if I did? Where the hell is security?! Throw these two pieces of trash into the ocean and let the sharks deal with them!"
Marcus, whom I kicked away earlier, scrambled to his feet and immediately brought about seven bodyguards to surround us.
He bowed apologetically to Brandon. "Mr. Wilson, please calm down. I'll deal with these two troublemaking lunatics right away!"
Then, he spun around and barked at me arrogantly, "Arthur! Do you really think you're somebody special? I used to call you Mr. Lambert out of respect for Ms. Wynter, and now you actually think you bought this island? This is just a toy Ms. Wynter uses to keep Mr. Wilson happy. Who the hell do you think you are?"
I was so furious I actually laughed. I spent 300million dollars and hired a top-tier team to transform this place, all so Emily would have a peaceful place to recover.
And now it became a plaything for Cassie to entertain her boy toy?
"Where's Cassie? Tell her to get her ass out here."
When Brandon heard that, he looked me up and down with contempt. "You delusional loser, you really think you're someone special, huh? A nobody like you thinks you deserve to see the CEO?"
As he spoke, he strode over and jabbed his finger into my chest. "You think you can call her Cassie? She's my fiancée! A worthless loser like you isn't even fit to carry her shoes!"
I grabbed his finger and twisted it hard.
Brandon dropped to his knees, cold sweat instantly pouring down his face. "Let go! It's broken! My finger is broken!"
The surrounding bodyguards rushed at me, trying to restrain me. However, I kicked them one by one into the ocean. I crawled out of piles of corpses in United Zahara, so dealing with these amateurs was child's play.
Just as I was about to break Brandon's other hand, a helicopter roared down and landed on the helipad.
The cabin door opened, and Cassie stepped out. She looked at Brandon with nothing but concern in her eyes.
The moment Brandon saw her, he burst into tears as if he found his savior. "Cassie! This lunatic is trying to kill me! He broke my finger, you have to have him beaten to death!"
Cassie turned her head, and that face that was already cold as ice toward me on normal days now looked even grimmer. "Arthur, have you lost your mind? Didn't I tell you I had important guests to entertain today and not to come here and cause trouble? Stalking me is one thing, but you actually hurt Brandon? Are you trying to ruin your own life?!"
Chapter 3
I pointed at Emily, whose face already turned pale, my voice hoarse. "Cassie, are you blind? I bought this island for Emily to recover on! Yet you gave it to this pretty boy for his livestream?"
Cassie glanced at Emily on the ground, disgust flickering in her eyes. "Arthur, can you stop being so selfish? Brandon's career is taking off right now, and he needs a venue for his debut stream. The island's just sitting empty anyway. What's wrong with lending it to him for a couple of days? Besides, a sickly girl can recover anywhere, can't she? Does she really need to hog such a great resource? She's being so dramatic!"
Every inch of this island was designed around Emily's health needs. Now it was turned into a mess, filled with cheap perfume and trash everywhere.
"I bought this island, and it's in my name. Did you ask me even once before doing all this?!"
Cassie responded self-righteously, "So what if it's in your name? What's yours is mine, isn't it? Arthur, if the Wynter family hadn't been protecting you these past two years, where would you be today? What's wrong with asking you to contribute to a small island? Hurry up and apologize to Brandon, then take the dying Emily and get lost!"
With Cassie backing him up, Brandon endured the pain and climbed to his feet. "Wait. I want you to get on your knees and beg for my forgiveness. Also, you need to pay me ten million dollars for emotional damages!"
The livestream chat exploded with comments.
[Wow, a domineering female CEO is protecting her man! It's so sweet!]
[This guy's such a loser, mooching off her and then getting violent.]
[That dying girl's really committed to the act. Why hasn't she croaked yet?]
I looked at the woman who once swore to spend her life with me, and now she showed this side of herself to another man.
Over the past two years, I pulled every string I had for her sake.
I handed over a dedicated oil supply line from Prince Khalid to the Wynter family for free. I even drank myself to the point of a bleeding ulcer to secure the Valdoria Monarchy's jewelry distribution rights for her.
"Cassie, are you sure you want to burn this bridge with me?"
Cassie waved her hand impatiently. "Arthur, don't try to threaten me. Without the Wynter family, you're nothing. Security! Throw them out! And if this girl dies here, toss her body in the ocean. Don't let her dirty this island."
The bodyguards who just climbed back onto shore surrounded us again, this time gripping metal batons.
Emily's breathing weakened to the point where it was almost inaudible.
She grabbed my pant leg, struggling to squeeze out a few words. "Arthur, go! Don't worry about me."
I crouched down and pulled Emily into my arms. She was the person closest to me, the one I cherished most, and now these animals were treating her like garbage.
Brandon was still shouting from the side, "Wow, the sick girl's still not dead? Tough little thing, huh?"
He suddenly grabbed a bottle of red wine from the table and splashed it all over us, grinning as he said, "Let me cool you off, wake you up a little!"
Cassie stood to the side, watching coldly. She calmly pulled out a tissue and helped Brandon wipe the wine stains off his hands.
"Brandon, don't stoop to their level. I'd feel terrible if you wore yourself out."
Chapter 4
I let out a cold laugh and did not bother wasting another word. Instead, I pulled out my phone and made a call.
"Lock down this entire sea zone. I don't want even a fly getting out. Then send the best medical team here immediately to these coordinates. Also, freeze all assets under Cassie's name right now, including everything she's given to that pretty boy."
Cassie heard what I said and froze for a moment before bursting into laughter. "Arthur, are you addicted to playing pretend? Lock down the maritime area? Do you think you're in some action movie? You're a useless loser I've been supporting, and you dare say you're going to destroy me?"
Brandon joined in the mockery. "Hey guys, check this out! We've got a lunatic here! He says he's going to take down the Wynter Group! I'm dying! Come on, get a close-up so everyone can see this delusional loser's face!"
The camera shoved right up to my face.
I did not dodge, just stared coldly at Cassie.
My gaze made Cassie uncomfortable, but she quickly regained her composure. In her eyes, I was nothing but an orphan with no power or background, someone with nothing but brute strength.
She walked up to me, looking at me condescendingly. "Arthur, for the sake of the two years you've followed me around, I'll give you one last chance. Get on your knees right now and apologize to Brandon. Admit you came here to scam us. Then sign a waiver giving up all property claims, and I'll let you and your Emily leave."
Her expression turned vicious as she added, "Otherwise, the sharks are going to have quite a feast with you two."
I ignored her, focusing entirely on performing CPR on Emily.
"It's useless," Brandon said mockingly from the side. "That sick girl is definitely done for. Ugh, how unlucky! She ruined my debut stream. Cassie, have someone spray extra air freshener later. It reeks of poverty in here."
Cassie nodded, but before she could say anything, her phone rang. It was the Wynter Group's board of directors calling. She answered casually, but the voice on the other end let out a wail of despair.
"Ms. Wynter! We have a major crisis! United Zahara has cut off all our oil supply! Our cargo ships have been detained at port, and they're saying we're involved in smuggling!"
"The royal family just announced they're canceling all our distribution rights and suing us for breach of contract, demanding ten billion dollars in damages! Not only that, but the bank just called. They've frozen all the company's accounts!"
The barrage of devastating news hit Cassie like a bomb, and her face turned deathly pale. "No way! That's impossible! What are you even talking about?"
At the same time, a dense roaring sound suddenly came from the distant horizon. The sound grew louder and louder, until even the sand on the ground began to tremble.
Everyone looked up. A dozen heavy military helicopters painted in camouflage formed a combat formation and came thundering toward us. Several speedboats cut through the ocean waves, followed by a massive medical ship.
On the flags, the Zaharan Royal Family's crest gleamed.
