My favorite doll company just dropped a limited-edition ball-jointed doll, and I was ten thousand dollars short on the deposit. So, I whipped out my phone and tapped on my chat with my older brother, Damien. [Hey, Damien! Quick, I need ten thousand dollars to welcome the newest member of our family! Xoxo] Ten minutes later, my phone finally buzzed. I checked it with a massive grin on my face, but my usually doting brother’s reply was out of character. [You’re way too young to be a homewrecker. Just wait until I get you. You’re going to get what's coming to you.] I was confused. I was just starting to wonder if Damien’s account had been hacked when a furious pounding rattled my front door. As soon as I opened the door, a strange woman barged in and slapped me across the face. “You’re the one who clings to my boyfriend and begs him for money, aren’t you? Oh, you want thirty thousand dollars? How about I buy you a cemetery plot instead? How about I throw a whole funeral for you?" I held my burning cheek, unable to believe what was happening. So, this was my brother’s girlfriend? Well, congratulations. You just threw away any chance of ever marrying into the Fischer family. Chapter 1 I held my face, the skin burning hot between my fingers. “Do you even know who I am?” Her best friend, Lucy Bravin, walked in right behind her, slamming the front door shut with a deafening thud. “Gracie, calm down,” Lucy said, handing her a tissue to wipe her hands. “Hitting her will only get your hands dirty.” Grace Collins scoffed, and the corners of her mouth, painted with bright red lipstick, curved into a smirk. “She’s a shameless homewrecker. Who else could she be?” Lucy took a step forward in her stiletto heels, crossing her arms as she judged me from head to toe. “Oh, so you’re proud to be a side piece? Girls these days really have some thick skin.” My heart dropped. I had been right all along. That text message hadn’t been sent by my brother, Damien Fischer. I clenched my fists tightly and said, “Damien is my older brother. My name is Pia–” “Give me a break.” Grace cut me off, tossing the used tissue right into my face. “Damien doesn’t have a sister like you.” Lucy chimed in sarcastically from the side. “This trick is so outdated. You think calling him ‘brother’ makes you close? If that worked, every girl on the street would be Damien’s sister.” Grace suddenly clamped her hand tightly around my chin. “How long have you been seducing him? How much money did you scam out of him? That ten thousand dollars was just pocket change to you, wasn’t it?” “I didn’t scam–” Before I could finish my sentence, I felt my scalp tug. Lucy had grabbed me by the hair and was dragging me from the entryway to the living room like a piece of trash. I stumbled backward blindly, my knee slamming hard against the doorframe. The sheer pain made me gasp for air. This was mad. What kind of psychopaths have I run into today? “To be able to live in such a high-end neighborhood, you must have slept around with plenty of men, huh?” Lucy pulled even harder, her fingernails nearly digging straight into my scalp as she added, “Damien has incredibly high standards. You think he’d ever look at a piece of trash like you?” Then, I was thrown to the ground, my head hitting the floor so hard that it started to buzz. Grace walked in, her high heels coming to a stop right next to my face. She bent down and tapped her long black fingernails against my forehead aggressively. “Little girl, stop dreaming. Damien only loves me. You’re not even worthy enough to shine his shoe. Today, I am going to teach you a proper lesson about what happens to homewreckers.” This was bullshit. My brother Damien had spoiled me and loved me since we were kids. As long as it was something I liked, no matter how expensive it was, it would be delivered right to me the very next day. Because I was a total homebody who hated socializing and preferred to spend my money in peace, my parents let me do whatever I wanted. That was why they told the outside world I was studying abroad, just to keep me from being dragged into high-society debutante parties. Aside from my family, the only person who knew where I actually was was Hank. Yet now, that lie had become the perfect excuse for this woman to abuse me. I struggled with everything I had, screaming, “Let go of me! Get the hell out of my house!” Lucy yanked my hair again, forcing me up as she crouched down. “I asked you a question. How much do you get paid per night? Is that ten thousand dollars a monthly rate or something?” My eyes widened, and I gritted my teeth, repeating, “He is… my brother…” “Your brother?” Grace raised her hand and hit me again. “And you’re his sister? Damien himself said that his sister is living abroad. If you keep lying, I’ll make sure your face is ruined today.” Lucy kicked me hard in the shin, sending me face-first back onto the floor. The intense pain forced me to curl up into a ball. In my entire life growing up, I had never once been treated like this. They were done for! Lucy then stepped on my fingers, grinding her heel down. “Don’t waste your breath on her. I want to see exactly how much money this bitch managed to scam.” I shook from the sheer agony, and blood started to seep out from beneath my fingernails. Even so, I pushed my body up, lifting my head to glare furiously at Grace. Grace looked down at me, as though I were literal garbage. “Let me tell you something. I came here today to make sure you know exactly who Damien’s woman is. You’re just a little bitch from nowhere, and you’re glaring at me? It seems like you don’t care about your eyes anymore either.” Chapter 2 Grace grabbed my collar and yanked me up from the floor. “Get up. Take us on a grand tour of your ‘apartment.’” She shoved me down the hallway, her sharp nails digging deep into the flesh of my neck. “You can’t even rent an apartment in this building. You have to buy them outright, and they cost five million dollars per unit. How could a broke college student like you ever afford this?” “That’s none of your damn business! When my brother finds out, he’s never going to–” Lucy kicked me right in the back of my knee. My legs gave out, and I stumbled straight into the bedroom. “That’s Grace’s boyfriend you’re talking about, you pathetic slut. You’ve really got some nerve.” Grace pinned me to the bed, her hands wrapping tightly around my throat. My head slammed against the headboard, and my vision went white. “Let me tell you something. You’d best lock up whatever disgusting thoughts you have, or I’ll make sure you don't live to see tomorrow.” I instinctively tried to pry her fingers apart, crying out, “Let go of me! This is going to haunt you in your nightmares!” Lucy grabbed a handful of my hair from behind and gave it a yank again. I rolled right off the bed and hit my head against the floor with a sickening thud. “Oh, really?” Lucy crouched down to poke the tip of her designer shoe against my cheek as she asked, “You think he’s going to break up with Grace over a dirty piece of trash like you? Dream on.” Grace looked down at me and chimed in, “Damien is just being fooled by you. Once he sees what kind of garbage you really are, he’ll be the first one to kick you to the curb.” I pushed against the floor with my arms, trying to scramble back to my feet, but before I could straighten my knees, Lucy stomped her foot down to pin me back to the ground. “Let’s keep looking,” Grace said, turning toward the next room. “If I don’t expose every single one of your lies today, I’m not a Collins.” Lucy grabbed me by the hair again and dragged me along behind her. The back of my head scraped against the hallway wallpaper the entire way. When Grace pushed open the next door, her footsteps halted abruptly. Taking up an entire wall was a glass display cabinet, beautifully lit by warm LED strips. Neatly arranged across three tiers of shelves were my ball-jointed dolls. Every single one of them was dressed in high-end, hand-stitched clothing. Their hair was perfectly styled, and their eyes were made of various brilliant gemstones. They were exquisitely beautiful. Standing in front of the cabinet, Grace’s face turned dark with rage. Oh no! I forced myself up from the floor and said, “Don’t you dare go into that room!” Grace whipped around and slapped me across the face yet again. The force of her hand cut through the air, and half of my face instantly went numb. “I’ve really underestimated you, you bitch!” My ears were ringing as my head slumped to the side. “Why are you so nervous? It looks like these toys are incredibly important to you.” Grace reached into the cabinet and grabbed one of the dolls out. “How much did this cost? Did Damien buy it for you? Huh?” She flipped the doll over. Engraved on the base was a line of small text that read, “Pia, always remember that I love you forever.” It was Damien’s handwriting, a handwriting she knew all too well. Her fingers tightened around the doll so hard that her knuckles turned white. “Do you have any idea how important Damien is to me? Since you love being a homewrecker, why don’t you just go to hell?” With a brutal twist of her hands, she snapped the doll’s limbs. “Stop it!” I screamed, lunging forward to grab it. “Put them down!” Every single one of those dolls represented the love my family showered upon me. My parents never looked down on me for not being the perfect society daughter. Instead, they always kept an eye out for anything I might like. There were antique glass eyes bought at high-society auctions and hand-stitched outfits that took master tailors half a year to complete. There were even limited-edition doll bodies that had long been out of production. My parents knew nothing about the ball-jointed doll culture, but they knew exactly how to spoil me. Every single doll in that cabinet was one of a kind. Any one of them was worth well over a hundred thousand dollars! Lucy wrapped her arms around my waist from behind, dragging me backward. “These aren’t cheap, are they? How many men did you have to sleep with just to get these toys?” I clawed frantically at her hands, screaming, “I didn’t! I didn’t! Get the hell out of here! I’m calling him! Yes! I’m calling him right now! Damien is my brother, and he doesn’t tolerate anyone bullying me! You’re both done for!” I managed to grab my phone and desperately tried to dial Damien’s number. However, Grace snatched the phone right out of my hands and threw it across the room. The phone hit the floor with a loud crack. “Why on earth should I believe you?” Grace laughed, bending down to pinch my chin and force my face up to meet her eyes. “You’ve got Damien spinning in circles with your lies, and now you want him to come bail you out? Do you honestly think I’m that stupid?” Chapter 3 Lucy shrieked from right behind me, “I bet those old men bought them for you just to play with you! Does Damien even know you’ve slept with so many guys?” Grace took another doll out from the cabinet and raised her arm, getting ready to smash it against the wall. “Don’t touch it!” I broke free from their grip. However, before I could take more than a few steps, Lucy yanked me back, causing me to lose my balance. With a heavy thud, I crashed to the floor. Desperate, I reached out and clamped my hands onto Grace’s leg. “You crazy woman, let it go–” Grace looked down at me, her lips curling into a sneer. “Then beg me.” Holding onto her leg, my entire body shook as tears blurred my vision. “If you treat me like this, Damien will never let you get away with it!” Grace’s lips twitched into a smile. “What? Are you saying you’re pregnant, you bitch? I am Damien’s official girlfriend. The Fischer family belongs to me in the future, so there’s no way I’m letting you off the hook. But looking at you right now… Tsk tsk. Why don’t you say you’re a homewrecker and that you’re sorry? Admit your mistake to me sincerely and beg me, and maybe I’ll consider it.” Lucy laughed from behind her. “Grace, look at how pathetic she looks.” I kept my head down, my body trembling with rage. Eventually, I lifted my gaze and said, “If you treat me like this, you’re dead.” Grace’s expression turned cold, and she kicked me away hard. “Refusing to beg? You bitch. You’ve been given plenty of chances, but you’ve made no use of them. Well then, I’d love to see just how tough you really are!” With a sweep of her arm, she sent the dolls on the display shelves crashing to the floor. Each crash sounded heavier than the last. Ceramic heads rolled toward the foot of the bed, and limbs shattered all over the floor. “No!” I frantically tried to push myself up to scramble over and save them, but Lucy kicked me right in the waist from behind. “Did anyone say you could move? Keep your eyes wide open and watch!” “You bitch! You're spending my boyfriend’s money to buy this worthless garbage?” Grace took another one out from the cabinet and continued, “Who do you think you are?” My eyes widened in sheer horror, and my head started buzzing. “Let go! Don’t touch it! I told you not to touch it!” That doll was my eighteenth birthday present. Damien had specially ordered it custom-made for me from abroad. The intricate embroidery on its clothes was handcrafted by a master artisan and had required a four-month waiting list. It meant the world to me as it was a symbol of how much my brother adored me. Seeing me trying to crawl back up, Lucy slammed her foot right onto my back. I was forced flat against the floor, left with no choice but to watch Grace throw the doll against the floor, creating a deep crack across the doll’s surface. “Damien! Damien gave that to me! You’re not allowed to touch it!” I struggled like an absolute lunatic. Startled by my sheer madness, Lucy’s grip faltered for a second. Using that brief moment, I dragged myself forward on my hands and knees, throwing my body over the broken doll on the floor. As my fingertips brushed against the deep crack, tears splashed onto the back of my hand. “Damien, I’m sorry… I didn’t take good care of it. I let them break it.” My eyes turned bloodshot, and I stared daggers at Grace. “I hate you! I hate you! You deserve to die!” However, before I could even manage to struggle to my feet, Grace picked up another doll and hurled it straight at me. The mocking smile never left her face. “You’re the one who should die, you bitch.” With that, Grace and Lucy each grabbed a doll. One smashed a doll against my body, while the other brought one down hard on my head. I collapsed weakly onto the floor, feeling as if every bone in my body were shattering into pieces. My vision grew blurry, but I could still clearly recognize those two specific dolls. Those were custom-made dolls my parents had specially ordered for me when I turned ten. They represented my parents, who wanted me to remember that no matter what, I would always be the wealthy heiress of the Fischer family, and I could do whatever I wanted in life because they would always support and protect me. Right now, those very dolls were slowly being stained with blood, their limbs scattered in disarray. My heart, too, felt like it had shattered along with them. Those dolls, which Grace had smashed to pieces, were the treasured possessions I had cherished for ten years. Incessant ringing filled my ears, and I could barely think straight anymore. “Look closely at this face, everyone. Steer clear of her in the future, and don’t let yourself get targeted by this woman.” Chapter 4 Lucy shoved the phone right into my face, the camera pressing against the tip of my nose. Meanwhile, Grace walked over through the mess in the room. She bent down and pinched my chin, her nails digging deep into my skin as she forced my face toward the camera. “Say it. Say you’re a homewrecker.” I twisted my head, trying to dodge her hand. “I’m not.” A slap landed on my left cheek. The force of it knocked me off balance, and my forehead slammed hard against the cabinet door. “Say it. Say you’re a homewrecker.” “I told you I’m not!” This time, my right cheek went numb, my ears rang, and I could taste blood in my mouth. Grace pinched my chin, yanking my face back to the camera again, and said, “Look at the camera and say you’re a homewrecker. Say you seduced my boyfriend, and say you conned him out of his money.” More comments flooded the livestream. [Good job hitting her! Homewreckers deserve to be punished!] [Make her return the money! Thirty thousand dollars isn’t a small amount!] [There are always so many homewreckers in these high-end apartments. This woman looks so young. She must be really experienced at manipulating men.] [Look at her face. Did she get plastic surgery? She’s just another leech relying on her looks.] [Wait, is that doll a limited-edition ball-jointed doll? Aren't those worth thousands of dollars each?] Grace stared at the comments, and her smirk widened. She finally let go of my chin, her nails leaving a jagged red scratch across my jawline. “Did you hear that? Everyone is watching. If you don’t admit to your mistakes today, I’ll make sure you go viral for all the wrong reasons.” I propped myself up on my arms and shifted backward, but my back was pressed against the cabinet door. There was nowhere left to go. Grace crouched down and hooked her fingers into my collar. “You’re still refusing to talk, huh? Fine. I’ll just strip you naked right here and let everyone see exactly what a homewrecker looks like.” “Don’t you dare!” “Oh, just watch me.” She grabbed my collar and ripped it downward. The top button of my pajamas snapped off and flew across the room, exposing my collarbone. I desperately covered my chest, trying to shrink back as far as possible. At that moment, Grace clapped her hands together, stood up, and said, “Come on in.” The front door opened, and two men wearing face masks walked into the room. Their eyes immediately locked onto me. I curled myself into the corner, asking, “What do you think you're doing?” With a smile, Grace pointed down at me. “Since you love serving men so much, I’ll give you what you want.” “You’re insane!” My voice cracked from shouting. “Damien will never let you get away with this!” “Damien?” Grace sneered. “He won't let me get away with it? I’m his girlfriend. Who are you?” “I’m not making it up! I really am his sister!” “His sister?” She bent down and patted my cheek. “You’re facing total ruin, and you’re still lying through your teeth. Damien told me himself that his sister is currently studying abroad. She goes to an Ivy League school and plays the piano and cello. Look at you. You don’t look like you’re a Fischer.” The two men took a step closer to me. With my back pressed flat against the wall, my fingernails dug desperately into the wooden grain of the cabinet door. “You’re going to regret this,” I said, my teeth chattering uncontrollably. “I’m telling you, if you touch me today, the Fischers will never let you off the hook!” Grace raised her hand and slapped me across the face yet again. My head knocked so hard against the cabinet door that my vision blurred. “Still keeping the act, are you?” She grabbed a handful of my hair and yanked me halfway up from the floor. “If you mention the Fischers one more time, I’ll make sure that mouth of yours never speaks another word.” Lucy moved closer, holding the phone out toward us as she said, “Gracie, look at the chat. Everyone is asking how old this bitch is. She looks really young. Could she be a minor?” Grace glanced at the screen. “If she's a minor, she deserves it even more. If she’s out seducing men at such a young age, imagine what she’ll be like when she grows up.” By then, the two men were already in front of me. The lanky one bent down and reached out, intending to drag me by the arm. I scrambled backward with everything I had. My fingernails snapped under the strain, leaving blood smearing down the cabinet door. Grace stood behind them with her arms crossed, laughing. “Why are you hiding? Aren’t you supposed to be quite the expert? Come on, show us what you've got.” “I told you I didn’t seduce him!” I screamed at the top of my lungs. “Damien is my biological brother! If you dare lay a hand on me, he will never let you go! Never! If I don't reply to his messages for too long, he always calls me! I'll see how you explain yourselves to him then!” The two men turned back to look at Grace. However, she simply played with her hair, completely unbothered. “Ignore the bitch. Keep going.” Under Lucy’s camera, the two men approached me with lustful eyes. I was trembling all over, but I glared back at them, trying to etch their faces into my memory. Just then, Damien’s voice echoed from the doorway. “What exactly is going on here?”
